GE wall oven JK3800SHSS. Started clicking loudly during last 5 mins of Self-Clean. Ongoing clicking and running fan. How do I diagnose/fix this?

I switched off the breaker overnight but today when I turned on the breaker, the oven is still clicking, the fan is running and I can see a red light inside the area where the fan is. The error message says, in part, "unexpected door unlock". The door opens and closes fine. We tried starting a new self-clean to see if it would reset, but it didn't. Is this a cheap and easy fix or a nightmare? We've only had this a year and a half.

What was the error code?you should never self clean your oven before any big holidays, for reasons like this, if it takes out a part the part most likely will have to be ordered and the last day they take orders at my parts store is monday before thanksgiving so if it's your clock and you have to order it you might not have it for thanksgiving so hopefully you just have a bad latch assy. and you can get it fixed before the holiday, from what i've seen i will never self clean my oven,i use easy off and scrub it,the oven gets up to 1000 degrees and it damages the electronics in the oven.the clicking you hear could be the latch assy. unplug the oven.open the door and see if the hook part that locks into the door isn't jammed,i just went out tuesday to change a latch assy and that part was jammed, the rod that goes from the motor and to the door latch was hitting the metal part of the latch that bolts to the frame and i couldn't move the hook part or catch at all and the motor was clicking trying to move it,i had to lift the top of the stove, bend the body of the catch assy. so the rod could move freely and that fixed it.but using the self clean short lives the oven and it can damage the latch or the clock assy.send the error or just goggle it and it will tell you what it is.

SOURCE: oven door locked

First check to see if you activated the "child lock-out". See your manual to deactivate.

You could also try unplugging the unit, or trip the circuit breaker in your home which supplies power to the oven. Wait 5 minutes and turn power back on. This will reset the controls.

Good luck!

SOURCE: "door lock" light stays on and oven won't work

Same problems. When I removed the lock operating arm nothing happened. Motor is not operating. I've temporarily kluged it by tying the "unlock" (upper) switch circuit together and disconnecting one side of the power to the "locked" (lower) switch. At least we'll have an oven to use, but I'll have to come back and remove the lock motor assembly to find out what's really wrong.
BTW, if some knows those keyed-in service codes they could be useful.

SOURCE: whirlpool rbd275pdb double wall oven died during self clean

The first time we used our Whirlpool oven the same thing happened - no power and yet the circuit breaker was not blown. I called Whirlpool, and they sent out a technician to check it out as it was still under warranty. He said the temperature was off (too hot) by 20F - he adjusted. He also replaced the blower. What he did not tell me was that the thermal fuse had blown, and he replaced it - this was the REAL cause for the failure. I got the impression that he did not want to let me in on the secret. He did not note on the paperwork that he replaced the thermal fuse. Last week I decided to run the oven through the self-cleaning cycle (the oven is now 8-1/2 yrs old) - I don't believe that we cleaned the oven but a couple of times since the first time that it was "repaired." I used the default 3-1/2 hour setting. Everything appeared to be fine - the oven went through the cleaning cycle with no apparent problems. The display now read "cool down" - I went to bed thinking everything was okay. I got up the next morning only to find out that the power was out. I called Whirlpool and demanded that they repair the unit again as they clearly never fixed it correctly in the first place. They offered me 15% off on a new oven - WHOOPEE! I asked to speak with the supervisor - he did not budge either. I was upset, and I told him that I would NEVER purchase a Whirlpool appliance again! I decided to tear into the oven to see if I could detect anything wrong. I pulled out the front panel - everything looked okay. I then noticed the "thermal fuse" - I did not know what it was called at the time, but it looked familiar. I checked voltage on either side of the fuse and found the voltage to be zero on the downstream side of the fuse. I pulled it out and read the information on the device: Microtemp 110C. I called a local appliance repair shop - they told me that it would cost $50 to purchase a new fuse! I told them that seemed very high. I ended up stopping at Radio Shack. They have thermal fuses in various temperature and voltage ranges. I got a 144C 10A fuse and carefully soldered the connectors to it and replaced the protective plastic sleeve. I actually bypassed the thermal fuse in order to use the oven before I found the replacement fuse. While it is a good idea to have a protection device for the slim chance that an oven may malfunction by overheating, it is not a necessity for the functionality of the oven. Hopefully, the thermal fuse will not fail during my next attempt to self-clean the oven. I do have a concern about the 10 amp rating, but I'm sure that it will work fine.

It is making a loud noise as if it is catching onto something it comes and goes sometimes louder than first time it started

I'm guessing your problem is the fan in the oven. To fix: 1. with oven cold, remove back wall fan cover in oven. 2. remove fan. 3. clean and lubricate. 4. install fan. 5. install fan cover making sure fan is not touching. If cover does touch fan, gently bend cover away from fan and install.

When I turn on the self cleaning oven, it makes a loud buzzing noise. Is this normal? If not, what needs to be fixed and how do I do it?

The buzzing sound comes from the relays located on the control board. Remember, the oven gets very hot during self clean, so the control works at full speed to get all the elements working.

Do you know how to test the fans on a GE Double Wall Oven (Model # JKP45W0P2WG) to see if they are working? I am wanting to make sure they are working prior to running a self-cleaning cycle. Thanks!

Some models the cooling fans come on when you start the oven. In some models the cooling fans comes on only when the control compartment reaches a certain temperature. In this case there is a reverse thermostat. It will close for the fan circuit when it reaches the temperature thus starting the cooling fan.

Bottom oven doesn't heat after running self-clean cycle

Usually, when an oven won't heat, it's because the bake element is burned out. The bake element is the black, pencil- thick tube at the bottom of the oven. When the oven heats, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it.

I have an electrolux icon double wall oven. I turned on the self-clean function for 3hrs and it making a very loud noise during the cleaning process. Is that normal?

yes, if the humming is not the loud sound then the fan may need some lubrication or if it is tripping the circuit it will need replacing , but if it seems like it is a viberating noise from the fan , then it could be that its bearings are bad , but the whole fan motor would still need to be replaced , but if it sounds like it just may be a loose fan motor , then tightening up the screws on the motor would stop the vibrating sound and or the fan blades from scraping metal( another sound you may be hearing )

Wall Oven No Power

yes the oven thermal fuse blew when the fan went off its also called a tco switch if you pull out the oven and take the top off there will be a tech sheet there that will give the location of the tco some are on top some are on back this can also happen if the oven is too tight in the cabinet not enough room around it to let the heat dissipate its a round metal disc with two wires on it
