Trying to Install Windows

you meant Installing? every boot we load XP, well we dont you do.
as XP is a virus magnet and we stopped using it 3 long year ago.
nor is it fun to b Cyber-attacked forever, with XP, why use XP

sure it dont work its old, and fully infected,
seems like the HDD is bad to me.
let me guess, those Install disk are no HP real disks. are they.

upgrade the PC to SSD. ? if cash flush, wild abandon?

or is this post really "how to fix PC with no cash, QOD"?
it came with Windows 98 the old old pc.
hp does not support it now. its DEAD.

go to goodwill store
walk in and grab a $20 pc with a w7 COA sticker on the bottom
and run that. fix that, for the hope thing to happen.

Inpect the computers preexisting operating systems to ascertain compartibility to windows XP. Only XP computers would recognise XP operatign systems. Attemptign to install windows XP onto alternate system either windows 98, 2000, mellanuim or Vista XP or 7 is least achieveable unless the old system were erased or new empty storage disk drive were acquired and replaced.

There is very simple procedure.

• 1st restart your Laptop and enter in bios setup with the help of F2 key or F1 or Del key.
• After entering in BIOS setup change the Boot order or Boot sequence.
• Select the booting device 1st boot from CD Rom.
• Save the setting.
• Insert windows XP Cd in CD Rom.
• Now Computer start from CD Rom.
• You follow the instruction and install the windows.

When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key then you can enter in bios screen.
Make sure hardddisk is detected in bios.
Then check.
But still it not boot then you need recovery disk or windows disk toformatyour windows.
For that insert rcovery disk in cd/dvd rom .
then again follow above method for enter in bios.
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom .
Then save and exit.
Then it boot with recovery disk.
Then follow the procedure on screen.
Then choose new installation of windows.
Then select 1 partiition to install windows then format with fat32 or ntfs.

compaq cq40 is one particular model from compaq which is literally designed for vista and when you want to install win xp ;it doesn't work becoz the BIOS block it;the only way out is to downgrade the system BIOS which is a risky thing.check your bios model and version and google for a lower version and download it and flash the ealier BIOS.gooogle more on How to downgrade BIOS

This is either an issue with the CMOS batter which may need to be changed, I have seen this error on thinkpads and one way of resolving it is to install an older BIOS, you can download a BIOS from your machine and install it using there instructions

no sir,,u have reinstall the windows 98 in the swapped hard drive coz only when they gets installed registeries r set,,once u install the windows 98 continue installing the system driver n everyhting will be functioning fantastic

Well, you can install XP as long as you have a CD and your laptop has a COA with a key. Hit delete, F2 or F10 to start the system in setup, change the order of boot devices to make the CD your primary boot device. Restart, boot into the CD and follow the prompts. After you complete your installation you can go to www.hp.com SUPPORT and DOWNLOADS and find whatever drivers you are missing. Take your time and you'll do fine.
