We have a Russell Hobbs microwave oven model 1714RC but the button that sets the timer does not work 90% of the time. It should set the timer for 30 seconds at each press. Any suggestions

Unplug the Micro for about 5 minutes and plug it back in this will reset the board,it may have picked up interference from other electronics.If the issue continues have a technician look at it.

Hello there :
first you will need to remove all of the screws off the back edges and the sides next turn over the microwave over and there will be 6 or 8 screws that are on the bottom edges remove them now turn over the microwave and using a flat tip screwdriver look at the seam and you can use the screwdriver to get the cover to start moving towards the back andd then once it is loose it will lift off
Now you will see the bulb towards the fromnt of the microwave simply replace the bulb and test it the microwave if it works reassemble the microwave and you are done ok ?

If everything else is normal, the trouble may be a failed magnetron tube (the microwave source), problems on the control circuit board, or parts in the tube power circuit that are bad. It's also possible a door switch can be at fault, but this usually keeps something else (fan, turntable or light, most often) from running as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. There are potentially deadly voltages present, and a chance of microwave leakage if repairs aren't done correctly. Take the oven to a shop for an estimate, or just consider replacing it if it isn't a built-in, an over the range unit or a high-end countertop model.

When I opened up the microwave cover, noticed that the door latch mechanism was worn and not holding up the interlock switch. A thick piece of tape on the worn piece of plastic and microwave was back to working (I had symptom of the timer counting down without the microwave turning on)

See page 8 of the manual for detailed instructions on HOW TO SET THE CLOCK on your microwave. Basically it says to press the CLOCK button, then press the CANCEL button, then enter the current time using the number buttons, then press the CLOCK button again to set it.
