If the top thread is not pulling up the bobbin thread, is it actually catching the bobbin thread? If not, then the machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

If it catches the bobbin thread but then the bobbin thread is difficult to pull, then possibly there is a snag somewhere that is catching the bobbin thread, the bobbin tension needs adjustment, or the bobbin case is incorrectly threaded.

    It pulls up but once I close the cover. It is threaded.

Thank you, thank you! I just tightened the screw on my bobbin case and that instantly fixed my thread tension problem. How on earth are you supposed to know about the little screw?! I thank you so much for the tip!

IT PROBABLY IS THREADED INCORRECTLY. GO SLOWLY BY THE DIAPHRAGM AND MAKE SURE IT IS THREADED CORRECTLY. ALSO MAKE SURE SPOOL PIN HOLDERS ARE IN PLACE THAT HELPS TO GUIDE THE THREAD CORRECTLY.

You may have the bobbin case in wrong.  I have this machine, and I know that it is really easy to put the bobbin case in wrong.  Try taking it out and making sure that the little stop is in the front and it is seated down in there and able to wiggle back and forth.  My experience with this machine, until the other day when my cat knocked mine off the table and knocked something out of alignment, is that it just works.  Any time mine hasn't worked, it has either been dirty, needing oil, threaded wrong or the bobbin case wasn't seated right.  In other words, it has always been my fault.

If you are using buttonhole twist or heavy topstitch and normal thread underneath machine tensions wont like it. Try using regular thread top and bottom but use two same colour on top and thread both through needle but put one either side of tension discs if you can. Top stitching jeans is problematic for manymachines even Berninas

How do you thread a euro pro 382?
Here are the steps to thread a Euro-Pro 382 sewing machine:
  1. Raise the presser foot lever to release the tension discs.
  2. Place the thread spool on the spool pin and slide it to the right until it clicks into place.
  3. Pull the thread end from the spool and insert it through the thread guide located at the top of the machine.
  4. Pull the thread down through the tension discs, then wrap it around the bobbin winding tension disc located on the top left of the machine.
  5. Insert the thread end through one of the holes on the bobbin and push the bobbin onto the bobbin winding spindle.
  6. Push the bobbin winding spindle to the right to engage the winding mechanism. Hold the thread end and press the foot pedal to start winding the bobbin.
  7. When the bobbin is full, cut the thread and push the bobbin winding spindle back to the left.
  8. Remove the bobbin from the spindle and place it into the bobbin case.
  9. Hold the thread end and turn the handwheel towards you to raise the needle to its highest position.
  10. Pull the thread from the bobbin case and insert it through the thread guide located above the needle.
  11. Thread the needle from front to back and pull the thread out about 6 inches.
  12. Lower the presser foot lever to engage the tension discs and pull the thread towards the back of the machine.
  13. Hold the thread end and turn the handwheel towards you to take up the bobbin thread.
  14. Close the bobbin cover and you're ready to start sewing.

How do I change the bobbin in a Janome sewing machine?
There is a small plastic plate where the needle goes down through the foot, remove this cover and you will see the bobbin. Remove the bobbin and refill or selecting another bobbin turn it so that when you pull the thread the bobbin turns anti-clock-wise, slip the bobbin into the black plastic casing, pulling the thread towards the small red arrow at the bottom of the casing, slip the thread between break in the silver metal sleeve pulling it to your left between the 2 pieces of metal this is where the tension on the thread is. You have now changed your bobbin. With the plastic plate still off, hold the top thread with your left hand and with your right slowly turn the wheel, this will send the needle (holding your top thread) down into the bobbin casing and will pick up the bottom thread, pull on the top thread and bring the bottom thread up through the hole in the plate. Replace the plastic plate and recommence sewing. Good luck

My 9410 wraps the spoon thread around the bobbin. the thread on the bobbin seems to be hard to pull off once the bobbin cover is closed
Got the correct bobbin for the machine? Is it in right way around? Once you've raised the bobbin thread out the needle hole, it should pull smoothly and relatively easily. Might also being snagged on a rough spot on the needle plate (=throat plate) or presser foot. Or has someone been playing with the bobbin tension? That's normally not something the user adjusts for normal sewing. Your machine takes class 66 plastic bobbins: http://www.dritz.com/askus/knownotions/index.php They're the ones with the sides that are slightly curved in at the edges, like two dinner plates facing each other, while the 15s have perfectly straight sides.

I have a singer 7258 that I can not get the tension to loosen up on. The top stitch is straight across and adjusting dial doesn't help.

Adjust the tension

Load your sewing machine with one color on top, threaded through the needle. Load the second color thread into the bobbin and thread.


Fold the scrap fabric in half, and sew a straight stitch at least 2 inches long. Look closely at the seam. If you see loops of the bottom color thread on top of the fabric, proceed to Step 3. If you see loops of the top color thread on the bottom of the fabric, proceed to step 4.


Loosen the top tension. Since the top tension is so tight, it is pulling the bottom thread up through the fabric. Loosen the top tension by turning the numbered knob on the front of the sewing machine counterclockwise by one number.


Tighten the top tension. Since the top tension is too loose, the bottom thread is pulling the top thread down through the fabric. Tighten the top tension by turning the numbered knob on the front of the sewing machine clockwise by one number.


Sew a straight stitch 3 inches in length. Check the stitching. It is perfect if the threads meet in the middle, and you can only see the top thread on top and the bottom thread on bottom. If it still needs adjusting, go back to step 2 to repeat the needed steps.


Using two different colored threads makes it easier for you to see which thread is being pulled.

Always use proper precautions when working with electrical machines.

It is threaded. but it goes through motion but there is no sewing.
Make sure that your bobbin is full and that you have picked up the bottom thread. Before you start sewing you should have two threads lying on the needle plate. To catch the bobbin thread, hold the needle thread and turn the machine by the hand wheel. The needle will bring the bobbin thread up with it. Pull the threads out about 4 inches and then you are ready to sew.

pull the thread thru the needle about 3 inches .. lift the foot .. place the thread under the foot exiting toward the back ..hold on to the end of that thread ... turn the sewing machine by hand one turn .. that will loop the top thread around the bottom thread .. now use a screw driver or stick or what every you have. slide it under the foot and out the back .. both threads will now be sticking out the back .. pull a little out (you may have to turn the machine a little to release the threads) .. now when you see both threads sticking out the back under the foot you are ready to sew ..

Thread the machine as if you were going to sew. When you thread the needle, pull the thread off to the left and wrap it around the thumb screw on the left and just above the needle. Wrap it only 2 or 3 times and hold the end of the thread. With bobbin in place and the face plate slid open, push the thumb lever on the left under the face plate to the left. Begin to 'sew'. As you do, the bobbin will wind and the thread you are holding will detach. Once the bobbin is full to the outside line, slide the face plate the closed position. As it closes, it will release the thumb lever. Put the needle in the slightly lowered position and slide something blunt under the pressure foot pulling thread from both the bobbin and the needle; cut the thread when you've pulled it out sufficiently.

Janome Sew Mini bobbin problem
Hi, Usually wrap-ups in the bobbin area are caused by the lack of tension on the top thread. The slack arm ( shinny lever that moves up and down while sewing) has to pull the loop around the bobbin case and it does so only if the tension on the top thread is sufficient to keep it from pulling more thread of the spool.
Try this: Thread the top of the machine all the way just short of the needle eye. When the presser foot is up the thread should pull through easily. Now drop the presser foot (this closes the tension discs) and pull the tread while adjusting the upper tension control.
If everything is working correctly you should feel the drag on the thread change if not something is keeping the discs from closing.
Most Janomes aren't too difficult to remove the nose cover, usually just one screw and you can get a look at the thread path. Look for thread wrapped around the mechanism.
