Assume you have a rectangular area such as a room and, for example, you want to calculate the square footage area for flooring or carpet. The way to calculate a rectangular area is by measuring the length and width of your area then multiplying those two numbers together to get the area in feet squared (ft2).

SOURCE: I don't know how to

In the Windows calculator application located in the accessories folder in the start menu, you can calculate square yardage by using area formulas such as length times width for a rectangle/square. To enter this with a keyboard you would enter (the length)*(the height) as long as your units are in feet or yards you will get the answer in square feet or yards. The Windows 7/vista calculators have built in conversion factors for yards and feet that can be found by pressing view>unit conversion.

How many cubic yards does it take to cover 1 inch deep, 3700 square feet?

Since we are trying to calculate the number of cubic yards, let's calculate everything in terms of yards.

Converting inches to yards, we have to divide by 36, since there are 36 inches in a yard.

1 ' = 1/36 yard

Converting square feet to square yards, we divide by 9, since there are 9 square feet in a square yard.

3700 square feet = 411 square yards

Calculating cubic yards, we multiply 411 square yards by 1/36 of a yard.

I get 11.42 cubic yards. So you are safe getting 12 cubic yards.

Good luck,

How to convert inches and feet to square feet and square inches

There are several ways to do this.
We can choose either inches or feet as our base.
Let's do the case in inches.
Let's say the measurements are 5'2" by 2'4".
Step 1 - Convert everything into inches, so multiply the feet by 12 and add the inches. 5'2" becomes 5x12+2 = 62". Similarly, with 2'4" 2x12+4 = 28".
Step 2 - Calculate the area in square inches. 62" x 28" = 1736 square inches.
Step 3 - Convert square inches into square feet by dividing the number of square inches by 144 (12" x 12"). I get 12.06 square feet.

Let do the case in feet using the same measurements.
Step 1 - convert everything into feet. Since there are 12" in a foot, divide the inches by 12 and add to the feet. 5'2" becomes 5 + 2/12 = 5.16'. Similarly, 2'4" becomes 2 + 4/12 = 2.33'.
Step 2 - calculate the area in square feet. 5.16' x 2.33' = 12.02 square feet.
Step 3 - Convert the square feet to square inches by multiplying the answer in square feet by the number of square inches in a square foot (144). Imagine a square 12" by 12". 12.02 square feet x 144 = 1730 square inches.

Note that I have rounded my answers, thus, they are not equal. To avoid this, keep the answer in your calculator and round only at the end.

Any questions, let me know.

Good luck.

Michael has to paint a house whose size is 2,800 square feet. He used 5 gallons of paint to cover 1,750 square feet. How many more gallons of paint will he need to cover the remaining area?

If Michael used 5 gallons to cover 1750 square feet, we can calculate how much each gallon covers by taking 1750 and dividing it by 5, which is 350 square feet per gallon.

He has 2,800 square feet to paint, while he has now painted 1, 750 square feet. We have to calculate how much more he needs to paint by subtracting 1,750 from 2,800. I get 1050 square feet to still paint.

We divide this amount 1,050 and divide it by 350 square feet per gallon. I get 3, so we need 3 more gallons. If it was 3 point something, we would have to get an extra gallon to complete the job.

Good luck.

Simply square the conversion factor between feet and metres to get the conversion factor between square feet and square metres.

One foot is 0.3048 metres, so squaring that gives one square foot is 0.09290304 square metres.
