Strausbourg Manor Wall Clock chime adjustment

How can I adjust the chime on my Strausberg Manor wall clock to go off exactly at the top of the hour? It goes off about 2 minutes early, is this normal?

  • tome2u Jul 29, 2009

This clock was purchased in the 80s for about a 100, It is a quartz and runs on battery, there is a sticker on the back that says the chime can be adjusted to see the manual, but since Ive inherited the clock the manual is nowhere to be found. Unfortunately I also cannot find a model number on the clock either. It says Strausbourg Manor on the face and on the back it says Made in Taiwan. There are two dials on the back , one moves the hands and I have no clue what the other one does. It would be real helpful if I had the manual :-( Its a beautiful clock!

It is normal for the average wall clock. Of course, this can be adjusted, but without watch/clockmaking knowledge it is impossible, because first you need to find out which part of the movement is causing early chiming - and there are plenty of them.
Super fine adjustment can be found only in top of the range clocks. Hundreds of hours of craftsmenship are spent to adjust and fine tune them. That's why they cost a fortune.
If you can not live with that early chiming, you have to bring your clock down to the watch/clock repair shop and ask for help. Be ready to pay quite a money, as this job takes the skill and a lot of time.

The second wheel is for fine tuning on my Strausburg wall clock.
1. Turn larger wheel on back of movement to set minute hand to 12.
2. The hour hand is usually friction attached. Hold minute hand and move hour hand to align with minute hand on 12.
3. Using minute hand , set clock manually to 12:55. Wait and see at what time the chime rings.( Someone complained that their chimes wet off 2 minutes ahead as did mine.)
4. The smaller wheel on back is for timing the chime. Turn counter clockwise about 5 degrees and then manually set clock to 1:55.

5. Counter clockwise will advance chime and clockwise will rewind chimes.
6. Continue adjusting in small increments and turning clock to 55 minutes before the hour until your chime hits 12. I got mine in 4 tries. Good Luck

Strausbourg manor quartz Westminster mantel clock. Why did it stop chiming?

Source: Wikipedia

The full hour chime is followed by one strike for the number of the hour by Big Ben (E3) (one strike for one o'clock, two strikes for two o'clock, and so on). ... The mechanism then plays two complete sets of five sequences for each complete hour.

Learn how to fix a mantel clock that chimes at the wrong hour. This simple fix will repair a clock that chimes at the wrong time. This can commonly occur when your mantel clock is laid down on its back and the timing is offset.

1 Thing You Have to Understand First On most clocks you can turn the minute hand counter-clockwise but SOME clocks are not safe to be turned in that direction. For this reason, it's best to only turn your minute hand clockwise just to be safe.

The Simple Mantel Clock Adjustment The easiest way to adjust a mantel clock chime is to move the hour hand to the hour that the chime is striking. Make sure that the hour hand shaft is not too tight or else it will not turn. Most mantel clock hands are friction held. DO NOT BEND YOUR HOUR HAND, loosen the shaft if it will not turn freely.
Once you have synchronized the hour hand with the hourly chime, adjust the minute hand to set the clock to the correct time by moving it forward (clockwise) around the clock face. Allow the chime to strike at every quarter hour strike.
Mantel clock Chime Adjustment When your mantel clock chimes the wrong number of times, your chime is not synchronized time of the clock. To adjust your mantel clock chime, proceed with the following step:

ADJUSTING THE HOURLY CHIME

  1. When your mantel clock chimes, count the number of times it chimes. This is what time your hourly striker is set to.
  2. Move the hour hand to the hour indicated by the hourly chime (count the number of gongs at the hour).
  3. Reset the time using the minute hand to the correct hour and the chime should adjust along with the clock hands as well.

ADJUSTING THE QUARTER CHIME

On most mantel clocks, you can simple remove the minute hand which is friction fit. You have to apply pressure on the tube and it will loosen. Once removed, re-install the minute hand at the correct time. From there you can rotate the minute hand to reset the time.

I can tell by the sellers of this clock that they are made in China. Due to that, finding parts would be difficult.

I have a Waltham Regulator Wall clock. It chimes 4 minutes late on the hour and 1/2 hour. How do I adjust it to chime on the hour and 1/2 hour? I've tried moving the minute hand with no luck.

Try this, remove batteries, set clock to 6 o'clock, reinstall batteries, then clock should chime, turn adjuster till you are at the right time, make sure your on am or pm,it doesn't chime at 10 pm- 5 am,so that will tell you if your at am or pm.When adjusting it will chime everytime you go past the hour. You can never go backwards,if you do then you will need to remove batteries and start over, use your phone's time to set.

Wall clock Ptrausboury Manor chimes on half hour instead of hour. How do I fix it?

Try to carefully remove the MINUTE hand (not the hour hand, as posted previously!) entirely from the clock then put it back in the "proper" place. for example, when it strikes at the six, remove the minute hand and put it back on pointing at the 12. Then re-set the time for half-past (or maybe quarter-till the hour by now! lol)

How to set a classic manor quartz west minister wall clock to chime at the correct time.

Hello Fern Hicks,

Short of ORDERING IN A NEW movement I
would rather try removing the hands... and placing them where they are chime appropriate...

I'm sure there are more convoluted ways of accomplishing the same thing... but I so old & clock oriented... I only turn clocks & timers in the FORWARD direction (very OLD school).

Remove the minutes hand (from where-ever it strikes)...
Move the hour hand (only if necessary & replace the minute hand as appropriate to the movement strike.

How do i reset the chimes for a Strausbourg Manor Quartz Movement wall clock? and what is the magnet for?

Try removing the batteries. Set clock to 5:45. Reinsert the batteries, and set to 6:00. it may take an hour for the clock to sync., but it should do the trick. The only thing I can think of for the magnet would be that it may have fallen out of the pendulum swinger where your pendulum hangs. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Stop the pendulum of the clock exactly at any even hour. Lets say at 6.00. While clock is steady and not working, pull off the minute and hour hands off the pinion, but do not brake them. You have to pull without any twisting action. This will leave pinions exactly in place they were when you stopped the clock. When it is done - push the hour hand back onto the pinion and make sure it is pointing at 4 (not 6, as it was when you stopped the clock). When hour hand is back in place and pointing at 4, push back minute hand as it was when you pulled it off - pointing at 12. Make sure hands will not catch when passing each other (you can bend them slightly if needed). Now swing pendulum to start the clock and adjust time (clockwise only). Never adjust time when clock is chiming. Rate me, plz.

Syncronize chime strokes to clock

The next time it chimes multiple times turn the hour hand clockwise until it is pointing at the number of times it gonged. Next take off the dial nut off (make sure to put it in a plastic bag because they can be hard to replace) and turn the minute hand until it chimes signaling 15 minutes after. Now put the minute hand back on pointing to 3 o'clock and replace your dial nut and you are all set.
