You need a router to share internet connection. You can only use this switch if your modem has a built-in router. Can you verify what modem brand and model number you have?

By using it, of course you have this items to connect it with internet:

  1. UTP Wire with Connectors at end each PC or Client Workstation.
  2. Make sure every PC or Client Workstation have its own LAN Card.
  3. To connect on the internet is to know what is IP Address, Gateway Address & DNS Server Address settings on your LAN connection.
  4. Lastly, It should have internet provider in your place.
Good luck!

My dell xps 410 will not go online thru either of the ethernet ports on the computer. im using my phone with usb tether and it goes online fine. it says it need the ethernet controller driver but...

Hello, look at this link, you should have installed the bottom driver, but take care! if you've got a LAN card as well, you might have got the MOBO one disabled in bios, so best to take out the LAN card, find out what it is and look for a driver for it, meanwhile, with it removed, install the LAN driver for the MOBO LAN port, (bottom driver on this link ) and see if it appears in your 'Network Connections' (Check in bios to see if it's been disabled, though)

How to link with 16 port switch with 8 port switch

Good question.
To link the new switch, take a short cable from the LAN port on the new Switch and connect it to one of the existing ports on the old or connected switch. it's just a daisychain.
Just keep in mind that the LAN connection on the Last switch must be connected to a PORT on the prior device on the LAN.

Adding a PCI ethernet card?

One port on the router is an "Ethernet" port -- look closely to see the 8 wires in the socket.

You'll need a similar 8-wire connector on your computer,
and an "Ethernet-cable" that has 8 strands of wire.

Adding-in the PCI Ethernet card will add an 8-wire connector,
so that the Ethernet-cable can be connected.

Be sure to buy a 'PCI' Ethernet adapter, not 'PCI-E', and not 'ISA'.
It may come with a CD-ROM containing software to be installed.

Don't pay more than $20. Or, find a "computer-geek" -- he/she probably will have one or more "spare" PCI Ethernet cards to give to you.

Tutorials On How to configure a D-Link DES-1008D Ethernet Swich

There really isn't much to setting up an ethernet switch hub. Plug a network cable into your router LAN connection and into port 1 or uplink port of your switch. All other computers will attach to ports 2 to 8. If you have an Uplink port and port 1, they usually can only be used singlely. That is to say use either the Uplink or port 1 Using both disables the switch hub.

Hi, i need the gateway number for the d-link DES1008D can sombody tell me please how to find out the gateway number.

Hi,

The D-Link DES1008D is an unmanaged switch. Hence it does not have any gateway address and none can be set on it.

If you are looking for the gateway address of your computer, here's how to find it.

In Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / 7, Open command prompt and type in ipconfig

Look for the IP address of the default gateway.

eg:

C:\>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

Hope this helps.

Regards.
