The screw may be triangular, or Torx (star pattern), or even 'pin-in-Torx', which all require special tools. They do it to prevent people from opening them up. But you can buy the tools, and for triangular screws I ground an old screwdriver down to match the shape!

Those screws are called 'Tamper Proof' or 'Tamper Resistant'. If you google those you'll find tool sets that will open dang near anything.

Hair dryer? You tried resetting the GFCI? The clicky thing on the plug. You'd be surprised how many people don't know to do that.

Babyliss have a bad habit of the cord going bad, right at the hair dryer. I've seen a lot of them. Once you get it open and slide the rubber cord-gripper thingy back, there's a melted or burned spot in the cord. You have to cut the bad part off and wire the cord back to the dryer. Normally once that's done, you never have any more problems.

That depends on several things.

1- how MUCH time? 2 to 5 years? thats acceptable.
2- How has it been stored? If exposed to extreme teperatures or sunlight then I would avoid it.
3- you may have warranty issues with the older model.

If its just last years model on the retail shelf, I see no downside at all really. The warranty would still apply from date of purchace.
