Take the phone to a friends/neighbours and plug in to test for a dial tone
if no tone , have the phone fixed
if there is a dial tone call the service provider and ask for a repair to your line

SOURCE: No dial tone on handset

It may not be registed with the main unit. You may need to register the handset. With my uniden all i have to do is put it in the main base until it says what handset it is (it should be a number).

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask

SOURCE: phones don't ring

Caller ID is a service that is provided by your telephone service provider and not the phone. If the phone company isn't sending your line Caller ID data, your phone won't display it. As for getting the handsets to ring, try pushing the volume up key while the handset is off, the more times you push the button, the louder the ring will get until you are at max ring volume. Also, some models have a "Do Not Disturb" feature which turns the ringer off. Without knowing which model phone you have I cannot tell you how to turn this feature on/off. but you can look it up in your manual online at http://www.uniden.com/index/manuals_results.cfm?cat=1

Why can't I rec or make calls?

What is happening when a call comes in are they getting a busy signal? If so your line is shorted out.. unplug all phones and see if caller hears a ring.. Then 1 at a time plug phones in. Check for a dial tone and press a digit, hang up and check and see if dial tone returns, repeat this on all phones, until you get to the phone that does not give you dial tone back after dialing a digit. That will be your bad phone... If the line was ring busy after all phones unplugged, call repair service..

How can I get more than 3 rings? I am in my 70s and disabled. I can not get to my phone to answer in 3 rings. I miss calls due to this.

  1. Pick up the home phone receiver, wait for dial tone, and dial *94. You'll hear 3 beeps followed by dial tone.
  2. Enter the number of rings you want (between 2 and 9).
  3. Listen for 2 confirmation beeps and hang up.

I gather you have the setting for tone and pulse set to tone? Also are you aware the ringing tone is generated by the phone company? When you dial a number and it connects, the phone provider sends the ring signal to the dial phone and the ringing signal to the dialing phone. Do you get a dial tone before dialing?

The switch that the handpiece activates is not working. Could be optical, magnetic or physical. It may need cleaning, adjusting or a wire connection repaired. Also check the curly cord and its connections between the handpiece and telephone.

Phone Rings,but cannot answer

if there is no dial tone that means that the connection is not being made when you pick up the phone hence you cannot answer nor can you get a dial tone
the fact that the phone rings indicates that the land line is good so the fault is in the phone itself

Service was connected on Saturday 10/11, telephone rings in your ear when phone number is dialed, telephone not ringing inside the home.

If the caller hears ringing after dialing the home but the not ring inside home. That means the number is active but the wiring inside home is faulty/ not properly connected. A phone rings /or works of a basic system. Two wires usually red/green as primary. If either one is broken or improperly connected the phone inside will not ring. That doesn't indicate a short. If it was a short the caller would not hear ringing at all. So the first thing you must do is the track the cause. Make sure home phone is plugged securely into phonejack. Still no dial tone check all other jacks inside home. If still no dial tone. Contact your service provider. They will need to send a technician to check the Demarcation point. Which simply means the connection point where the service provider wires , meets the customers house wires. They just need to verify this connection
