I am trying to install Plex to my LG smart TV it has been a nightmare I think I have it all done except for the server. Can any body help I know very little about computers TV Terry

I read your manuals they STINK but sure TVs do stink.(doc wise stinks , consumer toys do)
no OS disclosed by them, in TV no rules stated on HDD ext.(limited facts (tiny in the book)
but does support MP4 are you using MP4 you never told. (300 video formats /codecs)
1: what HDD drive is it, size ,2.5" 3.5" and volume sizes 2TB 10TB what? or tell brand /model?

2: does the HDD have power pack as all 3.5" do?
if not it will not work right,dead or clicks or is flakey, the HDD needs lots of power no TV can provide to USB1 port.
2.5" some work other not but SSD ext. will work just with a USB1 cable only. SSD use no power much.
3: is the HDD files put there via PC"? how;
windows 7/8/10? or MAC?

4: did you eject the HDD external on a PC before unplugging it , no w10 right lick taskbar USB ion, pick eject.

5: try no folders all an test x20 MP4 like that?
with simple file names, not wild complex names.

6: did you format the HDD as FAT32 or NTFS.
both are support, mostly but NTFS does the huge drives, only, and huge movies. no movies stated yet.
full length movies over 4GB will not fit any fat32 formatted HDD< so NTFS is best.
all I have is questions, and computers are complex for sure file systems, and such.

NO system stated, at all, what do you have connected before you, (endless possible for sure)
so I will do wild guessing,
I first guess you have old TV that is not SMART, so no Netflix player s there.
so you buy a ROKU, (I have 2 love them, more on that later)
is this a new RUKU or old.? if old you need to upgrade the firmware on it per your manual,
The ROKU news version self upgrade them selves and also upgrade app players all the time, so that new feature work, using say the * star button,(settings for many things)
min upgrades as I sleep, ROKU is the best there is, so good it is installed inside newer TVs now, yah it works that good.
NOT TV made works that good unless it has ROKU in it, OK???
see why, (answer the new apps update all the time, endless)

what does not respond mean
does the RUKU player work , on the main right side screen of ROKU, and MUST work on their web player channel this would be first test, not Netflix using logic of walk first then run.

Then see of you internet connections work. If the ROKU channel is dead, internet is next , mine has wifi and ethernet channels.
I use the latter, and NEVER FAILS, and we all know wifi is PITA.
(of 1000 reasons)
But you have wifi , I bet and that is a pain, if to far or too slow or the wifi channels are all overloaded by others in home or close neighbors (so move to higher wifi channels)>?

Tell again what "NO RESPONSE MEANS"
elaborate on just that,
1: the menus are missing , black screened?
2: what does not respond, exactly, what.?

on mine I use PLEX and I click PLEX and my PLEX server comes up. wow PLEX.
there are like 100s of APP players there are all dead/?

You might be able to do the same thing with Plex Media Server, it's free and works over wifi. Generally laptop HDMI ports are two way, and you determine screens etc through your video settings. Here is a link to Plex for Samsung. Appstore Overview Plex G00002687241 Samsung TV Blu ray Apps

Open control panel. Then, look for "Programs and features". Look for the program you want to delete and delete it.

Get thje proper hook up cables then it might work,

If you want to hook up the PC to play media, I suggest you install software called Plex for free (plex.tv). The Roku has the Plex app so you can play through the Roku or most smart TVs, Amazon Fire, or directly via an HDMI cable from your PC to the TV.
