The paper is feeding past the spring loaded plate that holds the paper to the scan window but then catches and jambs as it enters the return slot. If we add a little pressure to the top of the copier lid it often will work. The lid does not seem to sit level - it is slightly higher at the back then the front. We just replaced the back left hinge - the feed problem seemed to appear simultaneously with the broken hinge.
Hi, the left hinge is spring loaded to keep the lid open. This applies a lot of pressure on the pivot point of the hinge (steel pin/plastic hinge) that elongates the plastic holes and raises the lid from the scanner. As the paper leaves the scan window, a ramp next to the scan window sends the paper up to the tray, just past that ramp under the lid is a lip that guides the paper to the tray. With the hinge stretched, the lip is too high and catches the end of the paper at the rear only, and jams the paper. If you press on the cover (with the new hinge) and it does not catch then you have installed a bad hinge. Also ensure that the top part of the hinge is on the guide pins under the cover.
