The collate button is an electronic one on the LCD panel...not a separate button.
Now if the display is not registering the "finisher" / collator as being there then it is possible that something is wrong .. maybe the collator/finisher was physically installed onto the machine but maybe the electrical connectors were not plugged in. Ask the person/company that donated it if it was working.

Just make sure it's comes from a real news sites and not from someone that has nothing better to do then knock a charity.
