It sounds like a needle threading problem. if you have the instruction book, pull yout needle thread off the machine and re-thread as per the book ie presser foot up and make sure thread goes betwen tension discs and up over takeup lever.

to check needle tension is ok, lower presser foot and pull needle thread through needle, the needle thread should be tight enough to bend the needle a little.

goodluck,

scott.

John Lewis mini sewing machine

This was really helpful for me fixing my daughter a John Lewis (janome) mini sewing machine, and now can get the bobbin thread up again, however, when you sew, the thread is not staying in stitches, just coming off the material completely. I tried forcing the gears on one more time but then it didn't pick up the bobbin thread again so went back to the other gear position. Any ideas of what to try and get it stitching again? Thanks

Bobbin case catching thread

I believe that you are talking about the assembly that holds the bobbin case in. The bracket that holds the bobbin case in must be adjusted to allow the upper thread to slide by. Check if the thread will go by this area without "hanging up" while rotating the hand wheel. Also check your bobbin to make sure you have the right one. If it is too high or wide it will definitely be a problem.

Upper thread not engaging bobbin thread...

Hiya Kandie. Usually when you can't pull the bobbin through, the wrong size needle is in, try a different size needle. Hope I was some help for you.

I am having a problem with my Janome Decor Excel 5018. It was working fine, until the bobbin thread won't gather with the top thread. And the top thread is binding up underneath the fabric. Kim

try a new needle

rethread the machine top & bobbin, that way you make sure the thread is not caught anywhere

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted in the machine

clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for loose thread & lint

always keep a long thread tail of 3 to 5 inches long, & keep the tails pulled back behind the needle
before sewing

if none of these things help the problem,, then it may need to be serviced

This machine came with a very limited Manuel. The bobbin thread is knotting up and not catching as it should. I've re threaded several times removed and reinserted the bobbin, but can't seem to find the...

Check the bobbin tension and that the thread is tight around the bobbin. Make sure that the bobbin is in the right way around - the bobbin thread should double back on itself coming out of the bobbin holder.

Janome sew mini will not pick up bobbin thread

Oil the machine first. Then, determine whether or not you need any parts at all.

There are several possibilities, take a look at earlier solutions page for similar problem Here

I would also suggest a Q-tip or cotton bud dipped in metholated spirit to clean the bobbin case area, especially the recess track where the bobbin case spins.

If there are any needle strikes on your bobbin case which have spoiled the smooth surface required for efficient thread movement over the top, get a replacement for a few dollars.

For the record, Janome gives a 5 year warantee on circuit boards, so in the unlikely event that they fail, free replacement.
