Generally you would take your watch to the jewelry counter at Walmart where they would open the watch and replace the battery and just charge you for the battery.

Over wind

there's no such thing as over winding if the watch as stopped working it means there is a problem elsewhere, like the balance wheel is broke or there's dirt in the movement, try shaking it in a rotary direction backwards and forwards, see if you can hear a ticking sound, if not go to repair shop to get it fixed

Watch stop ticking

mcdevito75 here, There can be many, many reasons why a watch stops ticking, Have you wound the watch?? is the watch a Quartz?? when did you have it cleaned and oiled last?? how old is the watch??. You can try this, Reset the time on your watch, at times, pulling out the stem and moveing the hands will get a watch to start ticking again, primarily in older watches. If it"s a Quartz watch the battery may be dead. I do some work on watches and I'll be glad to look at the watch for you. Contact me at [email protected] for details.

Second hand stops, then ticks four ticks very fast then stops,

It may be that the battery is getting near the end of its life.

The back glass from my cartier fell and broke

The tiny particles of broken glass can stop the watch working. There isn't anythining you can do about it. The only solution is to find your nearest watch repair shop and ask for help as they definetely have all the gear and knowledge to sort it out.

Rate, please.

Brand new watch and second hand is not ticking. The watch has a crown and 3 buttons, the crown only pulls out one level and 1 button is mode, the other set/start/stop and third El (illuminates). Is there...

Yes, unfortunately the seconds hand, or, to be more precise, seconds wheel is faulty. There is nothing you can do yoursef as this fault requires attention and knowledge of watchmaker.
Find your nearest watch repair shop and ask for help.

Watch stopped after not being used for several days

The shaking is not the best way to restart the automatic watch as it puts slight strain on watch balance wheel and hairspring (most delicate part in watch).
As watch balance wheel is positioned paralel(leveled) to watch dial, you have to spin your watch back and forth a few times quite quickly.
(Imagine you are turning steering wheel in your car- thats the right motion). Before doing that wind up your watch a few times manually.
Right after doing that observe the seconds hand and if it is ticking just a little bit or ticking back and forth and then stops- your watch has jammed gear train and this is the reason why it stops.
If you don't have seconds hand- after shaking your watch listen for ticking and again- if it stops after short run, the gear train is to blame. In this case you will need watchmakers help as special skills and tools are needed to sort this out.
Do not forget to rate, please.
