My Maytag Neptune TL has a moldy smell that I can't seem to get rid of. I've used a steam cleaner to blast away mold I've found around the rim and other parts I can reach, and I've run cycles of just hot water/bleach, but still have the smell. Suggestions?

Take off the round agitators one at a time, by popping off the center cap and use a hex driver to remove the screw. Tilt out aggitator, and clean back of agitator, hyousing and gear box of the moldy/mildew build up..its kinda gross. That is where the stink comes from.

There is a musty smell in the maytag washer even b4 I fill it with water, I've disconneted the hoses & flushed with bleach that did not take care of it,Iv'e run washes without clothes in it...

When a moldy or musty smell develops in a washing machine, many times the smell is coming from the open areas of the agitator. Water along with soap and/or liquid softener sometimes splashes into an open agitator, and when the lid is closed it does not dry out. Instead, mold begins to form, and a musty smell wafts from inside the machine, even after the lid has been opened for an extended period of time. Until the mold is removed the washing machine will continue to smell bad, even if it is used and allowed to air dry with the lid open. The tub can also be the source of the smell. Lint can gather and collect in the holes, and when it does not dry fast enough it ends up smelling musty and moldy. Even the top of the rim can become moldy and musty, but proper cleaning can get rid of the odor.

So that said.To clean the machine, fill to just above the top row of holes in the tub.Add 2 cups of bleach.Let sit for 1-2 hours. Then let the machine run it`s wash cycle.Lastly use bleach water and a rag to wipe the machine down inside and out.If the agitator has a cup on top remove and clean with bleach.Leave the top open so the machine can dry.

Now it should smell better,if so use as normal, and leave the lid open when not in use.

Maytag Neptune washer always has water in the drum after wash is done? Any ideas? I can hear lots of water left in the washer when I spin the drum manually and of course it has a moldy smell having water...

The liquid is a saline solution which is hermetically sealed in the front balance ring on the spinner. It is there to reduce vibration and acts like a gyroscope when the spinner revolves. Good sound to hear when you spin the basket. The smell can be gotten rid of by using a washing machine cleaner like tide.

The washer bucket has developed a black mold & smells.can I fix?

first you have to wash the mold away the next solution is to go to home depot and pick up a product called affresh it cleans out the inside of your washer this is a once every 1-3 months product that will also prolong the life of your washer and all front loaders ive also found that this works great in top loaders as well

My Maytag Neptune front loader always retains water after the rinsing cycle is complete. This has lead to mold in the door gasket and a moldy smell. Is it normal for water to stay in the machine after the...

pump is probably clogged not allowing all water to drain out. Should never see water in the tub at the end of a cycle. About once a month you should run your washer through a cycle with hot water and bleach. Doing that should keep the moldy smell down.

How do I get rid of the black mold on the door gasket?

If you take a bit of tilex mold/mildew spray and a rag, you should be able to remove it all.
Also , look down at the bottom of the front "gutter" just in front of the tub. There is a series of drain holes and clothes lint can build up a bit in here. take a towel and wipe the holes really clean . This will help keep the water draining out of the front and keep the moldy smell to a minimum.
One last thing, I've found with my front loader, that if I keep my wash loads to a medium full size instead of completely jammed full load size, the drain/mold issue is almost non-existent.
Hope this clean it all up for you!

MAH4000AWW- Boot Seal

Friend,
ngfam1 At your service!

It is is normal for the Neptune to have water left in the inner tub after the wash finishes!
I used to have a Neptune and I sold them too!!
I had them change that drain under warranty when it was new and it never stopped the smell or the mold!
After the third repair I threw it in the trash and bought a Speed Queen Commercial grade washer and thats the last one I will ever by!
8 loads a week for 25 years!!!!!!!

****************************************************************
The moldy oder problem is in every Maytag Neptune made!
The Neptune comes new with water in it from the test run!
All the water never gets totally discharged. This is one reason why everyone complains about the moldy, musky or even stinky smell of the Neptune! Every day I have people here asking what too do about the moldy wet smell!
THIS IS SERIOUS!!!!!

I do tell them to run the washer once a week without clothes and with hot water and 1/4 cup of bleach. And then make suer to do only white clothes directly after wards as not to get a drop of beach water on a colored article of clothing!
Then leave the door open after every load when not in use!
That's Maytag!!!!!!!!
GOOD THING WHIRLPOOL JUST BOUGHT THEM OUT LAST YEAR!
Perhaps they will make some good changes!!

Hope this helps and makes you feel a little better as to some water sounds! HOW OLD IS THE WASHER??????

Below I referred you to a great service nation wide!

If none of these tasks remedy the heat problem then here is a good company that's found nation wide.
A&E Factory Service
A&E has schedulers available to take appointments 24/7
And they do warranty work too, for most manufactures!

Mold & Smelly in Washer

Thanks for your suggestion about looking in the lip of the seal. I found one of my three year old granddaughters socks. Also, the seal for very dirty so I mixed a 50% solution and 50% solution of chlorox and used an old towel rag to wipe and wash throughly around the lip seal.

I noted that the aluminum ring inside the washer had also accumulated a lot of dirt. With one hand and fingers I held the wet cholorx towel inside the ring and with the other hand spun the tub around several turns until I had removed all the dirt and grime.

It did have a moldy smell. I'll let you know if this fixed the problem.

Mold and smell

This is a problem common to many front load washers. Besides being very important to wile the the rubber boot down thoroughly there are a couple of products that claim to get rid of the mold and smell. I, myself, have ***** tried these but you might want to give it a shot. One of them is called Purewasher and is offered on the site www.smellywasher.com. Some time ago Maytag came out with a Mildew/Odor kit that they may still provede. again, I don't know for sure how well it works but it too may be worth trying
