My iomega external hard drive seems to be password encrypted and I don't remember setting it so I do not have password, can I override it somehow and access my files?

Try following those steps to remove encryption on oyur Iomega Ego:

Check the physical card. Some devices will have a physical lock switch, that or you encrypted the card. Does it ask for a password? If it does and you don't know it. I'm afraid your SOL. Format the card and move on.

Ive the same issue as yours. I recently updated my OS from windows 7 to windows 8pro. I've an iOmega ego, which works perfectly with windows vista and 7 but doesn't work with windows 8. It doesn't let me past the settling tab to p/w tab. iOmega is still working on a solution for the same. Hope it gets resolved asap!

if you right click on the movie you will have an array of option select properties you will see more options depending on which operating system you have this will differ

in windows 7 open with will be an option which you can change
and restore previous versions another

select properties you will also have the option to change what opens it
select advanced and you can encrypt to secure data

Iomega Utility are not Specific to the current device.

My iomega ego external hard disk was working properly but when i connected it today the encryption utility show that-Iomega Utility are not Specific to the current device and no any area shown to type password. My drive contains lots of valuable data. How can I acess into my drive. But the virtual drive is shown.

Plug your Iomega hard drive into the USB port on your computer. Click the "Start" button and choose the "My Computer" icon. Double-click on your Iomega hard drive's icon. Right-click in a blank space on the window and choose the "New Folder" option from the menu that appears. Highlight and drag all of your data into the new folder that you created. Right-click the new folder and select the "Properties" tab. Navigate to the "Sharing" tab and check the small box next to "Make This Folder Private." Click the "Apply" button and then choose "OK." Use your Windows login password to access the folder and the contents. Hope this helps

Your hard drive encrypts all the data put on it, so you need a password to access it. If you haven't changed anything, the default password should be just the word "password" I would recommend changing that as soon as you get into the drive. There should be a very obvious option in the program once you enter the password for the first time.
