My Canon PowerShot SX100IS will not keep the date/time. Every time it is turned off, it asks for the date/time to be set. What is causing this?

I tried new AA batteries, but it didn't help. Is there some other battery I don't know about that needs changed?

There is an internal battery that you cannot replace. IT has to be sent into service.

SOURCE: everytime I turn the camera on the time and date

There are two batteries in the camera. One is the big one you charge and the other is a little coin type battery. This coin battery maintains your settings and when it goes your camera forgets things. Same setup on computers and a lot of other electronics. In your camera the battery is a CR1220 worth about $1-$2. It should last about 3-5 years but you never know.

The battery is in a little holder on the left hand side of the camera. Its under the same cover as the usb connector and power plug in. You should be able to pop out the battery holder fairly easily. This is one of those things that if you take the camera to a battery store they will probably do it for you if they aren't busy. If you look at page 137 of your manual you will find the instructions for doing it yourself.

According to page 33 of the manual, the date/time stamp can only be embedded in the image in the Postcard mode. Set the image size (L, M1, M2, M3, S, Postcard) to Postcard.

SOURCE: Fuji FinePix S9000 battery change clears date/time.

Hi

I started having a similar problem with my Fuji FinePix F10 after about 3 1/2 years of problem-free use. Another poster had some really helpful advice which I thought I'd pass on. It seems there is an internal battery or capacitor which basically fails after a while, meaning date/time settings etc are lost when the battery is removed. (Some people claim this is a motherboard/chip problem instead - seems to be contentious!) So the camera is faulty, but the problem can be worked around.

The advice I found, which worked for my camera, was this:

- Turn off camera and leave off for approx 15 seconds before opening battery door.
- Change battery quickly (within a few seconds).
- Close battery door and leave camera off for approx 15 secs before turning back on.

This retained all settings when I tested it multiple times. I imagine it might not work if changing over a totally dead battery though.

Hope it helps!

SOURCE: Canon Powershot SX110is: problem with the batteries

Make sure you are using Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries will go dead immediately in this camera. I've tried it.

SOURCE: Canon Powershot A570 keeps showing change the batteries

I had the same problem. Here's the solution. Go into menu settings, then over to tools, select reset all at the bottom of options list. You may have to re-enter the date and time. This solved the low battery problem for me. I hope this helps.

Time and date resetting constantly...

This camera has a separate date battery. Lift up the small rectangular cover next to the main batteries. A small CR1220 battery maintains the date. Replace it and you should be OK. I just discovered this on the Canon web site.

In my canon Power shot sx100is . how can i get the date on image

Good evening!
Bad news. For the date embedded feature, the image size is FIXED to the 2M (1600x1200) setting with the compression set to Fine.
The only other way I can think of, is if you are printing from software that came with your camera. When you start the software and transfer your photos, there will be a box to check if you want to add a date stamp to your photos.
Sorry about that! Mine does the same thing, only I never put the stamp on mine.
Hope this will be ok!

Canon A450 internal battery problem?

There are cameras with 'fixed' internal batteries to maintain date/time they are long lived and not usually replaceable.
If this is such a model and it is new then a replacement should be forth coming from the vendor or Canon.
The vendor is the first stop then Canon support
