SOURCE: My daughter's Aspire One is

This password is a BIOS password and to reset it you'll need to go into BIOS and do it manually.

If the password comes up before any other loading screens then we'll need to flush the BIOS password cache, but hopefully we can solve everything by going into BIOS.

To enter BIOS hit the F2 key repeatedly as the computer boots up. You should enter BIOS after the first loading screen by Acer. If this does not send you into BIOS, try the DEL and F1 keys. You might also need to hold the F2 and DEL keys together. Once in BIOS find where you can set the password and reset it or enter a blank password as your new password.

If you can't access BIOS or are prompted for a password once you enter BIOS, try the following methods to flush the BIOS password cache:
1. Contact Acer support and ask if they have a backdoor BIOS password that they will allow you to use.
2. Send your laptop to Acer to have them reset the password manually, although this takes an undisclosed amount of time and I believe they will make you pay about $100.
3. If you don't want to pay Acer, open your laptop and locate the motherboard. On the motherboard there is a CMOS battery, if you don't know where this is use your PC manual. Remove the battery for an hour and then place it back on the motherboard. This should reset the password. After this turn on your computer and continuously hit F2, or whatever key you find opens BIOS, while the computer boots. This will reset all your BIOS settings so it may take a few minutes to open. After it is open, just exit BIOS and everything should be working properly.

Thanks for using FixYa and good luck!

SOURCE: How to repair : smart failure predicted on Hard Disc 0 : WDC WD3200BEVT-22ACT0-PM on Packard bell laptop

You have the S.M.A.R.T. virus infestation. There is nothing wrong with your hard drive.

You can try to remove the infestation yourself by following the steps below or as I recommend to most everyone who gets this particular virus. Bring it to a pc shop that specializes in virus removal for a set price. I strongly recommend bringing it to a expert because this is a very tough infestation to remove. If you try and remove it yourself you are very unlikely to remove all of the virus infestation and might not be able to recover any missing program Icons that have already disappeared.

If you feel lucky then here you go:

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:

Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

I have a dell inspiron 15R that has a blue screen telling me that its harddisk security and then it says Sata port o wdc wd10jpvx-75jc3t0lock? help? How to fix this??

Hi,

The hard drive has been locked in the BIOS. If you cannot get into the bios with a password you can contact Dell for a code to unlock the BIOS and drive ... Here is a link that might help.

I turned on my laptop it it has a blue box that says harddisk security SATA PORT 0 WDC WD3200BEVT-24A23LOCK

If this hard drive has been in your computer all along then you likely had a password in the BIOS at some point and you'll need that password to unlock it. If the hard drive used to be in another computer and you've moved it to the laptop. you won't be able to unlock it without the original password. You might try contacting the vendor of the laptop for help unlocking it if it is, in fact, a computer you bought at the same time as the hard drive. Otherwise, your drive is possible locked without a way to unlock it without maybe erasing it.

After booting up my Acer laptop i got this error SATA Port 0 WDC WD 3200BPVT - 22JJ5Lock help please.

This is going to be very hard as once hard disks are locked they cannot be undone so if you have no passwords to get into the security of the HDD, its a new hard disk i'm afraid.

I almost fell out of my chair! lol!
A 320GB SATA harddrive that is 2.5 inches across in width, (Regular laptop size) is W-A-Y cheaper than THAT!

My lenovo lap top screen stays black even if the computer is on..

hi msinon, connect another external screen to the IBM-machine to check if simply the screen is broken.
If that does not help, remove the RAM-memory module (see instructions or manual), retry booting up without it, if still not lucky, the mainboard is broken and you will have to exchange it or get another new machine.
Think of transferring the old harddisk to the new laptop or keeping it as an external back-up source(you will have to buy an USB to SATA adaptor plus harddisk case) sa you can use it like a flash drive...

good luck
