Some have a slot in metal ring just above the spool assy. You will need about a 1/8" metal rod to put in the slot and move slowly around til you find slot in shaft once you find slot hold and turn either cw or ccw with strap wrench or very large slip joint pliers.

it is getting hot from friction because you cannot tighten it so the head spins but everytime it hits a wed it tries to stop spinniing because it is slipping from the bolt not tightened. fix the bolt hole with a tap and put in a new bolt

sounds like your flex cable has taken a trip south. Pull the shaft off the head and take a look at the flex cable. If flex cable is ok, they your clutch is defective.

Check the size of the line,(OD), make sure you are using the correct size, sometimes cheap line will be problematic, also, you said you are re-stringing it, try a new batch of string, the old string inside the hub can get chaffed and will stick to itself...
