Dell Vostro 1400 green stripes problem

Sorry for being very brief in my previous request, my laptop Dell Vostro 1400, 18 months old. displays green stripes on screen as soon as i click on power on button, nothing else is displayed, not even cursor or keyboard are in control, i guess they are working fine in background, i could hear laptop boot up sound, but it's not displaying anything. i tried F8 as well, no use, as i said nothing except green strips are displayed. please help.

When this happened to me, I found that I had a bad NVidia chip. Dell replaced my motherboard under warranty even though the warranty had expired, because it is a fairly common problem. It was 1 year ago, so they may have discontinued the free replacement. You need to search the web for the information though, because customer support will not offer without you asking.

Hi ravi_kuma108 i have the same problem you described in a similar laptop. did you find a solution or clue about it? I only can guess its a bottom flex-cable connector or top flex-cable connector problem. If you had something you can share i will be apreciated.

My laptop is Dell Vostro 1400, 18 months old. i am getting green stripes on screen, nothing else not even cursor. please help.

Seems like graphics card problem.

It may be that the card needs to be reseated (don't do it yourself if you have not done it before).

If it is a software problem, then following procedure may correct it.

Restart the computer and right after tap F8 key continuously.
You will see advanced boot menu.
Use up/down key on keyboard and select Last Known Good Configuration and hit enter
It should boot you up.

If that does not work, do the above procedure and instead of Last known select "Safe mode" from the list. Log into your account and click "No", it will show you system restore window, You can try to restore the computer to an earlier date when it was working fine.

Dell Vostro 1400 LCD Showing Black Screen

If you can't see it with an external monitor - it generally means the system board needs replacement. I hope that you still have a Dell warranty. Good luck.
