It's normal if you remove the cable harness, the alarm goes off.
Check your engine oil level.
Disconnect the engine temperature sender. If it then stops sounding, replace the sender.
Does the alarm still sounds when the engine is running?
Does the engine has had his maintenance?
Maybe you can post the exact engine type, so we can look for the exact alarms wiring system...

Reverse the polarity on the trolling motor by taking the trolling motor apart and turning ithe motor housingt 180 degrees and bolt it back up. The polarity will be straight then. I did the same thing when I pulled the armature back in.

YOU need to locate the RESET alarm button. They are in different places but the most common are UNDER the steering wheel column, glove box, drver side kick panels or in the middle console someitme hiddedn. The button is small and not sure if your alarm is factory or after market.

Check your rear emergency brakes. A brake shoe pin could have broke and the shoe locks up in 1 direction. but not the other. The other problem you mentioned could happen, but if it is in reverse the trans shifted.

I have 1969 5hp Johnson. Starts and runs good, but will only push a 14ft row boat slow at low to medium rpm. When at higher rpm the the motor just revs up and the boat slows down to almost nothing just like it has seaweed around prop.Any help would be great.
