It's normal if you remove the cable harness, the alarm goes off.
Check your engine oil level.
Disconnect the engine temperature sender. If it then stops sounding, replace the sender.
Does the alarm still sounds when the engine is running?
Does the engine has had his maintenance?
Maybe you can post the exact engine type, so we can look for the exact alarms wiring system...

Reverse the polarity on the trolling motor by taking the trolling motor apart and turning ithe motor housingt 180 degrees and bolt it back up. The polarity will be straight then. I did the same thing when I pulled the armature back in.

YOU need to locate the RESET alarm button. They are in different places but the most common are UNDER the steering wheel column, glove box, drver side kick panels or in the middle console someitme hiddedn. The button is small and not sure if your alarm is factory or after market.
>HOLD the BUTTON in while the key is in the off postion
>TURN the key to ACC while holding the button.( this should reset it)
>or put he key in ACC1st then hold down the button for a about 5sec.
>or your car manual will have the instructions

SOURCE: transmission

Check your rear emergency brakes. A brake shoe pin could have broke and the shoe locks up in 1 direction. but not the other. The other problem you mentioned could happen, but if it is in reverse the trans shifted.

SOURCE: outboard motor won't run under load

I have 1969 5hp Johnson. Starts and runs good, but will only push a 14ft row boat slow at low to medium rpm. When at higher rpm the the motor just revs up and the boat slows down to almost nothing just like it has seaweed around prop.Any help would be great.

I have a 74 Reinell 4 cylinder 120 OMC stern drive . runs great but when I put it in either forward or reverse the prop doesn't turn. Doesn't go into gear. also the tilt wont lift.

If this is a mechanical shifter... start at the shifter and see whats NOT working... is the cable broken, the shift linkage broken, has the cable came out of its holder(happened to me)...see if you can shift into gear by hand..

Mercury 115 problems

This could me that reverse gear is not fully engaged.Adjustment on the cables is needed.Take the cowlings off. With the motor not running, move the throttle/gear selector into forward and reverse. You will see where the cables move in the engine area.Note which way the cable moves the selector when reverse is selected.Do this next bit from inside the boat.Hook up the flusher to the motor and start it.Select reverse. When you hear the grinding, push the selector by hand in the direction of travel. It should engage the gear fully. You will see the adjustment threads on the control cables.Move to suit.Hope this helps
