1150 dell inspiron. Laptop won't power up. If

Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.

Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).

Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.

Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.

Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.

Caps lock flashing indicates faulty memory - it's a POST (Power On Self Test) before BIOS executes. When memory is removed it should indicate "no memory". Carefully re-insert the RAM memory module, check the tiny contacts inside the connector on dust. Then try again.

If there are 2 memory banks (1 one the back, the other under keyboard) remove one RAM memory module.

If capslock keeps on flashing test it with another RAM module.

unplug the power cable and take out the battery, then press and hold the power bbutton for 30-35 secs. Insert the battery and plug the power cable, check if it works!!

Try to isolate the battery by plugging the power adapter to it. Then remove the power adapter & press/hold the power button for 5 seconds. Insert the battery, turn on the pc & insert the power adapter , check if the battery is charging. Bad motherboard. Black Christmas is around the corner. New laptops are running 200-300. Time to save up for one...sorry :(

If ac adapter and battery have been replaced (Dell Branded AC adapter is required) then the only thing left is motherboard.

A fast check to determine whether you have a problem with the power adapter, power cord or the laptop's battery is to turn off the laptop, remove the battery, connect the power adapter, turn on the laptop & see if it works.
If the laptop works directly from the power adapter with the battery removed, then the power adapter is good. In this case we can suspect that the battery is defective.

Remove the battery the memory the ac adapter,the hard drive, the cd rom.Press and hold the power button down for twenty seconds.try again if no go you will have to replace the systemboard.
