SOURCE: how do I get to the lid switch to replace it on my washer

Pull of the end caps #14 & 11 on the diagram. Remove the screws and the front panel will flip up. Then there are 2 clips connecting the bac to the cabimet. Snap those out and the the WHOLE front of the machine comes off if you tilt it forward. Go to sears.com and parts to bring up any model for anything and you can kind of see how things go together. Good luck.

SOURCE: can't get top off kenmore washer model # 110 22852 100

No problem. What you want to do is this, remove the screws from the back panel first to remove that metal plate protecting the wires. Once off you need to take off the two covers on the sides of the control panel. There is one on each side, just pop them off. Once off you will see there is a screw under there holding the control panel in place. Remove the screws and that will lean back. Next take a flat head screw driver and put it under the lip of the lid on the front of the washer. I mean the lip that is about an inch down from the top on the front. Pry up and the whole lid will pop up. You will see the lid switch there held in by a screw, follow the wire to where it plugs in and unplug it and replace with the new one. Let me know if you have any other questions and if this was helpful to you. Always happy to help and good luck.

The agitator won't work, and the button under the lid fell off. What can we do to fix it, or would it cost too much to fix it?

Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? ..........

Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines.........

The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub.

The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers.

Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem.

IF THIS IS A BASIC KENMORE / SEARS TOP LOAD, DIRECT DRIVE WASHER THE PROBLEM IS LIKELY A LID SWITCH. (EASY AND INEXPENSIVE TO FIX)

I'D NEED TO KNOW THE BRAND AND MODEL NUMBER TO BETTER SUGGEST A SOLUTION.

Where do I Find the model number on my Kenmore Elite Top load washer?

The model number on Kenmore top loaders is usually printed on a nameplate along the wash tub rim opening under the washer lid. The model number has 8 digits with a prefix of "110". If you cannot locate it, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore Automatic Washer

This is a very common description of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first, then check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (two screws along the tub rim on the right hand side). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. If you do not wish to order online, take the part number provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a common part that most carry. The following link explains how to replace the switch:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid.

Spin Cycle on Wash Machine does not work

The problem is your lid switch. This is a common problem with this model washer, and a very simple & inexpensive problem to fix. Click on the following link for advice on how to replace:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

You can find a replacment switch at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Cabinet Parts" heading on the next page. I believe thats the heading the part is listed under. Sears has excellent part locator drawings to assist you in identifying the part. Once you have the part number identified, you can do some comparative shopping at other online websites too. Use the part number that Sears provides, however. A new switch usually runs about $25 to $35. In addition, make sure you check the lid strike. This is a small plastic piece on the lid that is used to activate the lid switch through a small slot. If the lid strike is broken off, it will give the same symptoms of a defective lid switch. I hope this information helps you. Please post back if you have any questions.
