The problem is probably the opener safety sensors. Inspect the photo-eye sensor. The sensors are the small black boxes the near the bottom of your garage door frame which are usually installed on the tracks with a small bracket.
When the infra-red sensors are malfunctioning, usually one of the sensor lights will be blinking. The problem is either due to a blocked path between the sensors, dirty eyes, loose wires at the sensors or at the motor head, or just bad sensors. The transmitters (remotes) will not work to close the garage door. You will find that the door will only move an inch or so in the close direction and reverse. When this happens your garage door will only close by holding down on the wall button, or wall console, until the door fully closes. This method is the only way to override the safety and close the door.
1. Make sure that there is not something blocking the sensors from communicating with each other and the wire connections are securely fastened at the sensors and motor head, and the eyes are directed at each other. A lot of the time dust, spiderwebs, or even a small toy can block the sensors. If there is anything blocking the sensor remove it and try your door again.
2. If there is nothing blocking the sensors they maybe misaligned. They need to be pointed at each other in-order for they to work . If they are try to push alignment sensor into alignment. You will know they are aligned when the light stops blinking on the sensor.
3. Also, try unplugging the garage door opener and re-plugging the unit back into the outlet. This acts as a reset and may reset the sensors. If nothing works, it may be that you have to replace the sensors.

Circuit breaker tripped. Once reset, garages door opened all of the wa. The door only goes down two feet and stopped. When button is pushed again, comes back up hitting the stop quite hard?

Check the travel both up and down without the garage door connected. Check you owners/installation book that came with unit. When you assembled it did you have the trolley in proper place (up against a screw driver. If you don't set trolley and install chain you will have problems with the travel. Sit down and reread instructions and ensure that it assembled correctly.

I have an access master door opener..it goes up about 6 inches and stops, hit switch again, goes down, hit switch again goes up about two feet, hit switch again goes down, third time switch nothing until...

Door sensors have nothing to do with door opening. Only closing. It sounds like you have a bad gear in the motor unit. Remove the cover and it will be obvious if the gear is bad.

Worked great the past 2 years. Now, garage door

Remove the cover and take a look at the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. Most likely stripped.

Garage door wont close w/o re-opening

Wrong forum. But hey, I'll take a stab at it.

It sounds like your door goes so far down, then stops. Then you hit the button again and it goes back up and stops at the top. Then again, and now it goes to the bottom.

Have you tried allpying WD-40 to the entire length of the door runners leading from the motor unit to the garage floor? Have yo cleaned these runners, then done the WD-40? Are your door sensors (assuming you have them) set up and aligned correctly? If not and they both have little lights on them, if those lights are blinking it probably means they are not aligned right (though this problem often results in the door not responding at all).

Finally, how old is the opener? Maybe the main unit needs work or dare I say it, replacing. But make sure those other issues are checked before running out and spending money on a new main motor unit.

Hope this helps.
