First. The whirring or buzzing sound you hear is the Color Wheel and it needs to be replaced. Second, since I do not know when and if the original lamp has been replaced it is a good idea to replaced the lamp. The bad Color Wheel is the one causing the set to shut down.
I had the same problem with the same model. The solution was to replace a capacitor, C622, which is located near a small blue rectangular plastic component. This component is a relay that is controlled by C622. I paid $2.39 for the part, $8.99 for S&H for a total of $11.38. This fixed my problem!
You haven't specified where the buzzing sound is coming from, if it is coming from speakers, changing capacitors in the audio section will fix the problem, especially the filters. Now if it sounds like a hissing sound from back of the tv, the CRT base socket is the culprit. It is an easy thing to fix, and the base is cheap, but make sure you purchase the exact same type of base or it will harm the CRT. Good luck.
Thank you Russ. So, basically need to replace power supply then, right?
