Questions like this need the engine size, 5HP or 150HP?
Best bet is to get the service manual, but videos may suffice?
Check if your oil feed hose isn't bent or cracked.
It' a sign the oil from your tank couldn't get to the engine fast enough...
If it's a 2 hose oil tank, check if your oil tank cap is wel sealed.
i have a 1977 85 hp johnson outboard it started and idiled for about a minute and now i cant get it to fire at all its got good spark possibly not getting fuel but is there anything else i should check
If you are having problems with the VRO then I would just remove or disable it and mix your own fuel. It is cheaper and there have been alot of problems with those going out while the engine is running and then they sieze their engine because of the faulty VRO. Mix your fuel 50:1 and you will be able to run all day!
Hey BK, Its still the carburetor!.... take it to a qualified professional.. there are TOO many tiny passages and jets that must be perfectly clean for a small engine to run properly..
