Other than possibly needing service, I would suggest mis-threading. Remove all the threading from the machine. ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Be sure to thread each in the order specified (threading out of order will guarantee failure!).
The reason that the machine will stitch a couple or more times before the thread breaks is because something is preventing the thread from advancing from the thread tree. The thread stretches, gets tighter and tighter with each stitch until the thread breaks. Check your machine's tension also. It could be too tight. But most of the time the thread is looped around something where it shouldn't be, it is not in the correct thread path, or there is a spot that is snagging and holding the thread.
FWIW--if my serger breaks a looper thread, this method always works. You can futsh around trying to rethread a single thread, but 99% of the time, I end up rethreading from the beginning.

Treading and tension, possibly wrong needle for the fabric.
SOURCE: lower looper
It is impossible for a looper to come unthreaded if you are holding one end and the other is still feeding off the spool. Somewhere a thread broke - must be either the upper looper or the needle. Try completely re-threading your machine. Many machines have an "order" they prefer to be threaded. Try starting from the right tension guide and work to the left.

Mmmm...., maybe NOT the solution, maybe, just a key.
I have a copy of theBaby LKock EA-605 instruction booklet in English, Germann, French and Spanish. NO ideas how it casme into my orbit, but happy to pass it on.
SOURCE: thread continually breaking in lower looper needle
I was having this very same problem with my lower looper . I had been using the one needle stitching all afternoon and I was doing quite nice stitching. then I decided to put the right needle back in and do some overlock stitching and guess what I spent the next two hours fighting the looper problem. I had completely re-thread this machine at least 20 times now. I decided to take the needle out and re-insert it and re-thread it one more time (right lower looper- then upper looper- right needle- then left needle) was careful to pull all threads to the back and under the presser foot for about 6 inches.
Held on to the thread, lowered presser foot and did the chaining stitch. BINGO it didn't break, tried it with a piece of cloth and Perfect stitches. I have a Babylock BL402 and used tension settings left to right
4-3-3-3 and default settings for the rest.
Hope this helps someone someday.

Been there, done that. Old serger almost went out the window more than once.
Raise the thread antenna and loopers to their highest positions.
Set the tensions to zero. If your serger has auto-tension, raise the presser foot as this also opens the tensions.
Begin threading from the right as indicated in your manual or on the door of the serger.
If this continues, the serger may need to be serviced as the timing could be the problem.
Ask before leaving the serger as the service cost usually starts around $100.
I finally gave in and bought a Babylock with instant jet-air threading.
