Seems like a fuel flow (volume) issues but which engine? diesel, gas, or propane.
If you haven't change fuel filters recently, try that first. Then test fuel flow from low pressure pump to the injector pump (diesel) or carburetor (gasoline). Propane has its own unique issues.
My John Deere only starts with a hammer. I have the Kawasaki engine and it is famous for bad starters, so I carry a hammer and tap on the bolt when I want to start it. So, you either have a bad solenoid in your starter, or the contacts are dirty, battery connections are dirty. Or the battery is dieing. Check it out. Hope this helps.
I am going to suggest a tune of of the engine. Change the oil and oil filter. Check the air filter is clean and replace it if it isn't. A new spark plug.
