I have an ancient 254xp husky which runs exeptionally well but recently the half throttle mechanism on starting has stopped working and I cannot see why

The part throttle is actuated by the choke pull, the choke shaft on the carb has a white plastic arm that contacts and locks the throttle shaft, the arm is sprung loaded so when the trigger is pressed the arm jumps off, so you need to look at the arm, as it is plastic it can wear and then not engage with the throttle shaft.

How to install throttle cable and springs for trigger?

Hi Patrick:
I would recommend that you try using Google with the search words being the make and model of your saw plus "Manual" or "throttle cable installation".
Here's the link that shows what I got when I tried it for my old Husky 266.
Hope it helps you.

I installed a new after market gas tank on mi 365 huski when i start it, it runs at full throttle, with and without the throttle cable attached

Recheck your assembly...Something is either has the carburetor throttle plate held open or you have an intake air leak. Nothing to do with the tank other assembly problem.

How do I install throttle catch on 61 husky

You have to remove the tank/ handle from the saw to do this, the tank is secured with 6 anti vibration rubbers 3 screws either side ( you have to remove the starter to see the screws on the l/h side ) unhook the fuel hose and throttle wire, the tank will then come away, the pin for the throttle lever is behind the top anti vibration rubbers ( the rubbers unscrew from the tank, you need a pin spanner to do this, the problem is nearly always with the throttle itself, their is a small hook/recess on the side of the trimmer that wears away. The part no. for the trigger is 501518002 the lock is no. 501518102

The symptoms indicate lean running, so check the fuel filter for plugging and the fuel lines for decay or other damage. Husky seems be having troubles with our ethanol treated fuel and may require some warranty attention. We have a year old 435 Husky that would not start after about 3 days of excellent running--warranty replaced the carburetor which seems to have us working well now. Good luck!
