You are dealing with the constant series of compromises between hole shot or top end. Need to know diameter of props, but increasing the diameter by 1/2" on the four blade will help top end, and then try increasing the pitch to maybe a 22 if hole shot is still good and top end lacks. You could also add trim tabs if you don't have them to help you get on a plane faster as well.

Removing riding mower blades

Removing the blades is not that easy on my rider.
I am lucky enough to have a 500 lb. chain hoist and a big maple tree in the yard, and can lift the front end enough to get under the deck. But i think those blade bolts tighten up when u mow for some reason.
Have tried several things over the years to hold the blades from turning when breaking those bass todds loose. Blocks of wood, vise grips, and so on, but still end up sometimes with cuts and abrsions. Becuase i can't get the ol impact wrench out to where the tree is, here's what's worked pretty good lately. Come in from the grass discharge opening with a 3" 4 ft. pc. of PVC pipe, i think sch 40, and slip it over the blade on that side. Take the socket on about a 14-18" breakover, turn till things bind and stop, then tap the breakover handle with a hammer to break loose the bolt or nut. Go to the other side and do the same. That's why the pipe is 4 ft. long.
Always wear gloves when putting the sharp blades back on, if u slip off the bolt, big cuts can accure.

good luck out there

Y does my 2003 mercury outboard 200 efi take so long to get by 21 foot pro craft out on a plane it is really slow

Check the size and pitch of the prop. By reducing the pitch you will get better hole shot out of the water ,but my be lose a little top end speed. This will be stamped or cast into the prop eg: 15x21 which stands for 15 inch diameter by 21 inches pitch.

I have a 46", 21 HP Craftsman riding mower. The

perhaps it is no oil or too much oil. Check oil level!
If it was too much it would be blowing oil or blue smoke out the exhaust.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Re powering a boat that had a 290 hp 350 with a 300 hp. 350. I need to know if I should change the gear ratio from 1.50-1 to 1.86-1 in the stern drive.

NO.What you will have is a boat that has slightly more hp.It's only 3% increase.Your boat will get up and go slightly better but in the end think of this.
4000 rpm is still 4000rpm.The engine is still spinning at the same rate even if it has 400hp.
The cheapest and most effective way to alter things,is with a different prop.Be it a 4 blade ,3 blade, slightly more pitch.Run the boat and see what you get out of it.Then decide what to do.Props are a LOT cheaper than gearboxes. As a unofficial rule,a change of prop pitch by 2inches is going to change the revs by 'about' 500rpm.Eg. 26inch pitch= 5000rpm,24inch pitch=5500rpm. This will vary slightly boat to boat but it's a good starting guide.
Hope this helps you
