Try attaching the swivel to a chain link fence and walk away feeding the line completely out. Then begin reeling in the line at a normal pace with the drag set at max, after 10-15 turns decrease the drag a full turn. continue doing this until the line is fully retrieved. then set the drag as you normally would before fishing. Sometimes the line gets twisted while fishing which cause the tangles and backlashes. Make sure you use a barrel swivel also.

Wow, I can't believe that. That reel is very simple and shouldn't do that. I would guess that it's a problem with the line. Usually a real like that comes with line. Sometimes line is bad and it's very twisted due to being the last on the spool before it's put on your reel. I would suggest you buy some quality line, like Trilene or Stren and use about 6 lb test. I like the limp kind (read the box and it will tell you what type you are buying). Limp line means fewer twisting/tangling problems. Good luck. Alley

How do I get my zebco to retrieve the line

Your reel has pickup pins on the spool that will guide the line onto the spool when you reel in.
Try holding gentle tension on the slack line just above your reel and start reeling in. If this does not work then remove the top cover of the reel and look to see if the line is tangled up on the inside around the center shaft underneath the pickup pin cover.
if this is the case, simply unscrew the pickup pin cover from the center shaft. It will be on the tight. Remove the tangled line and reassemble.

The line will not release when I cast

I am assuming you know at least something about fishing with a baitcast reel. If you do not, make sure you release the thumb button when you cast.
Chances are your line is either tangled or dirty on the inside. Also, the longer the line sits on the spool, the "curlier" it becomes, making it more difficult to get a good cast. I would suggest replacing your line.

If that doesn't help, then its possible that the release pin isn't releasing when the button is released. If this is the case, it is probably time for a new reel. Zebco 33's are inexpensive, and not really worth the trouble to try and repair- better to just invest in a new one.

Cant cast the pinnacle platinum plus lp 100 fishing reel more than 15 feet because the line tangles. Any suggestions?

Sounds like your drag is too loose. Best way to get used to setting a baitcaster, in my opinion, is to put a 1/2 ounce weight on the end of the line and engage the spool. The line should drop to the ground freely, but not full speed - if too fast, the spool will continue to spin and you'll get that dreaded birdsnest. If it doesn't reach the ground, you need to loosen it more. Once you have it set, keep that weight on and go practice, using the thumbing process Parorae noted in the previous answer.
They take some getting used to for sure!

How to I fix a spin casting reel?

You should be able to remove the spool by removing the knob on the front of the reel which also is the drag adjustment. With the knob off the spool should pull right off. Hope this helps you

I have a shakespeare sigma fishing reel that tangles up when I cast it, any solutions

The line needs to installed on the reel as it is on the new spool when purchased. Also check spool drag. If it is a spinning reel it is important to install the string correctly and use a quality brand of string.

Penn Spin Reel will not lock after casting

On the front of the spool there is a device to turn to set the drag. Torn it tighter and tighten it until slightly below the breaking point of your fishing line. It isn't a critical adjustment, it just keeps your line from breaking while trying to land a fish.
