SOURCE: No dial tone on handset

It may not be registed with the main unit. You may need to register the handset. With my uniden all i have to do is put it in the main base until it says what handset it is (it should be a number).

If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask

SOURCE: handsets wont work at all

it may be that the handset is registred to another base unit-
we had one base and one handset replaced by uniden, but the second (old) handset was still registred to the old base, therefore everytime we tried to deregister the handset it was looking for the old (replaced) base and of course could not connect and therefore wouldnt deregister. still havent figured out what to do yet

My phones are not working at says out of range.

When a cordless phone says "Out of Range" or "Searching for Signal", there are a number of possible issues (assuming you are close to the base). 1) The handset battery may be low and not taking a charge. If the battery is more than a year old (including time spent in storage), replace the batteries for both handsets.
2) The base may not have power or an incoming telephone line signal. Check that the power adapter is warm (power to the base). Use another phone cord (and a second phone (preferably corded) to check for a dial tone). If a second phone has no dial tone, see below for diagnosing a phone line.
3) The phone base has lost the registration information for the handsets. A way to reset the phone is to unplug the power cord (from both the wall outlet and the phone base) and the phone data line and unplug the batteries from all handsets. Wait several minutes then plug in the base power and data cords and then reconnect the phone batteries. You may want to re-register the handsets. This is done by putting the handset in the main charging base for 20 seconds when the handset is fully charged. (See your phone manual) The phone was made by Thomson Electronics for GE; the manual is available here: http://www.home-electronics.net/USER-GUIDES/25952_DOM_EN_CL_IB.pdf .
4) The phone base or handsets are not transmitting or receiving the signals properly. This means that the phone needs repair or replacement. If it is under warranty, contact the manufacturer. Otherwise decide if the phone is worth the repair costs.

If you have no dial tone at the jack where the base is connected, check another phone jack on that line. If you still have no dial tone, find where the phone service comes in. Then open the service box and if the service is fairly new, plug in the RJ-11 test phone and listen for a dial tone. If you can't plug in the phone cord or there is no dial tone, contact your service provider. They will test and fix any outside problem.

If the problem is inside, inspect the visible wires. If you have a DSL filter as part of the inside wiring, check/replace it. If only one jack has a problem, open the faceplate and fix any loose wires. There are two faceplate designs - screw terminals or keystone jacks. For the screw-type, the conductors must be stripped and secured under the screws. For the keystones, the conductors are not stripped but pressed into the terminals with a punch-down tool. This tool is available at many home improvement stores in the wiring aisle. See http://www.lanshack.com/wire_phone_jack.aspx for a diagram of the wiring.

If the problem is not in a visible part of your wiring, you may want a professional to find and fix the problem. Your telephone provider will be willing to do the work for a fee.

I hope this helps.

The phone is not ringing and it is plug on charge and my wife got new battery for it too. What can i do to get it working? What size of Batteries cani use for this cordless phone

You need the specific battery pack: 5-2814 for the handset. This is a 850 mAh Nickel Metal hydride battery.

When I see a cordless phone that doesn't ring, the first thing I recommend checking is the phone jack and line itself with a second phone. I prefer to use a corded handset with a new phone cord to check for dial tone. If no dial tone at the jack, check for dial tone at the service entry box. If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your provider. If it's only a problem at the jack, you will need to check your inside wiring.

To check the base, try a new cable (RJ-11) (double check the power as well).

To check the handset, first make sure the handset is fully charged (16 hours) and that the battery is fully installed. Does the handset beep when the Talk button is pressed? Next check that the handset ringer software is on. With the phone off (not in the talk mode), press the Mute/menu OK button. Use the Caller ID/volume (up/down) buttons to get to the Handset setup menu. Press the Mute/Menu OK button to access the menu. Use these buttons to check the Ringer Volume (should be on) and Ringer Tone. Press Mute/Menu OK to save the settings at each sub-menu. Check that the Do Not Disturb function is not on - this toggles with the Do Not Disturb button and should be noted on the handset screen when on.

If you have multiple extensions on the phone line, try unplugging some of them.

I hope this helps.

Brand new cordless handset -- no dial tone, no ring!

I doubt it's the battery. As I understand it the base works fine and the problem is only with a cordless phone. Are you using an external charger stand for the cordless handset? These phones need to be registered to the base unit. That is usually done by installing the cordless phone in the base unit but you may need to do that shortly after insalling the battery or you could have a register button or setting.

Handset ?No Link To Base? error and no dial tone

2/29 Have you registered or re-registered the handset?
"No link" can mean handset is not accepting radio wave of base unit. At Mfgr website pull-down operator's manual and look for registration instructions. Some sequence of buttons will create a radio signal from base (have handset off base) then another sequence of buttons on handset will accept radio signal. If handset has "menu" button, try "menu", then "00" (zero zero) then select an accept or "OK" button. Good luck.
