Problem is the second 'live' lead (or second positive lead) touched the metal frame that holds the battery and 'earthed' causing sparks. Since then the outboard 'misses' weather at idle or at speed and while idling it often stalls. Any ideas as to what I might have damaged in the motor please. Any help will be appreciated.

the idle air motor in the throttle body is probably not working right it lets more air in the intake when its cold and is supposed to shut off when it warms up if its not shuttin off then it is probably not closing

A large rubber hose feeds air to the large block with "RE-EGI" cast into it. Between that intake hose and the RE-EGI block, called the dynamic chamber, is the throttle valve. You can adjust the idle speed by adjusting a screw in the top of the throttle valve to 800 rpm.
