I have a JVC GZ-MG20U camcorder and it won't charge. The charge light comes on as soon as I plug the charger in then about 5 seconds later it goes off, same as the access light but it only stays on for about 2 seconds. I've tried taking the battery out and putting it back in.

Check the specs in the manual to determine the voltage/polarity (may also be next to the plug input on the camera) is the same and you may be able to use a generic adapter like those you'll find on Amazon for JVC GZ camcorders like this:

Before you connect the camera to the computer you have to install the software that is on the CD that came with the camera. When this camera was new, Windows-XP and OS X 10.3.9 were the standard. I think you still can get the correct drivers and perhaps even the complete software on the JVC site, if you can't find the CD. I lost my CD and I still could get the software only a couple of years ago.

It's definitely an internal problem in your camera and it sounds like you don't have any warranty after 5 years. I don't have a step-by-step help guide for you since I don't know about this camcorder but in my opinion, if the camcorder is really that good, it's worth the repairs. Though HD camcorders are getting cheaper these days...

This will not work as webcam, since when you connect it to USB, it will be detected as external drive. No hardware inside that can support webcam function. Sorry

I have the same problem. The battery is charged, but the camcorder will only work while plugged in. It worked for a while on the 1st day, Christmas, then it would only turn on while plugged into the charger and would stay on after charger was disconnected. Today it will only stay on if plugged into charger.

The best and easy way is to look on EBAY....for a new charger for your camera. The plug that goes into the camera is unique and is only used by JVC

Camcorder has charging circuit but it could go defective. The repair would be costly so in this situation, you can purchase stand-along battery charger for around $20 and charge the batteries independently.
