What is the last thing that happened before this problem occured?

your tv has one the Y buffers defective.which half is black,the botton or the top? i believe that you have to call the repairman .

Ive seen 2 problems that can give this effect. The first is infared interference from another light source. The other is an electronic problem in the front panel where a small filter electrolytic capacitor has given up. Ive only seen the latter problem in pretty old gear so id say the best test would be to put black tape or block the infared reciever on the front of the telly and see whether it still does it. If it does then it is in no doubt a filtering issue likely caused be a failed electro cap.

The problem is the "Y-SUS" board. It is inside the set on the left side with several aluminum heat sinks, under the left side brace bar. You can order this board from Union Electronics at www.ued.com .Search for part number: TNPA3243AB-PA

It lists for about 115$

I learned recently that, since I purchased mine with a VISA card, VISA automatically doubled my warranty to extend it to a second year. Hope this helps someone else.
