If you have this problem it is because the laser has shifted from where it needs to be and the good news is that it is not that hard to fix all you need is a good repair guide.

You can of course send it in but the disc reading issue you should be able to fix in less than 1 hour from home.

If you had it hooked up in HDMI you have to go back to that TV and switch it into composit otherwise the PS3 doesn't know that you have switched like it does when you go from compsit to HDMI. If that doesn't work I recommend trying it in safe mode.

This is most probably due to the cable you are using, try unplugging the AV / HD-MI lead and blowing it to remove any built up dust. If that fails you will need to replace the cable you are using.

You have the dreadful blinking red light of death. Long story short the system is broken and you have a few options:

1. send the system to sony and receive a refurbished system for $150.
2. find a local to do it for much cheaper
3. watch vids on the web (youtube.com) and fix it yourself but it is fairly difficult.
4. buy a new ps3.
