Well go out and buy a timer that plugs in and the item plugs in to it or if you are talking hard wiring than you need a timer relay.

I have the imm24 timer and would like a better quality timer which one will work

Imm24 timer is 230V 3500amp flush-mount hard-wire 24-hour mechanical-dial immersion heater timer

Following page shows imm24 timer and other brands of immersion timers

Prices are in Euros and Pounds, so I don't know distribution range of product.

Looking for a timer to turn a 120volt 2amp water pump on for 1min 2 times aday that will last for more than 3 years please help

1) You need 120V timer to control 2 amp water pump.
V x A = watts so 120V x 2amp = 240 watt
754 watts per HP divided by 240W = 1/3 HP horsepower.

2) To get 1 minute time periods, you need electronic timer.
Most electronic timers have minimum 1 minute set time.
Same schedule each day, you can use 356-day, 7-day or 24-hour electronic timer.

3) To have electronic timer last longer than 3 years you need a clean circuit and expensive timer.
Use circuit analyzer to check circuit. Hire electrician to check circuit and replace pump if necessary to make sure timer will last as long as possible.

4) Intermatic ET70115C should last for many years. Battery is replaced every 8 years.

ET70115C $379

5) You posted under EH10 water heater timer, which is inexpensive water heater timer rated for 1HP. You can't expect inexpensive timer to last as long when using a motor, although 1/3 HP is lightweight motor.

6) You can buy five EH10's for same price as one ET70115C.

7) List of ordinary electronic timers, each with slightly different features
Intermatic EH10 $73

Intermatic ET1105C $96

Intermatic ET101 $101

Tork EW100B $177

Sylvania SA300 $72

White wire going to water heater also connects to terminal 1

Black wire going to water heater connects to terminal 4

My EH40 is not supplying power to the water heater. I hooked the power line in to posts 1 and 2 and I hooked the load out to posts 4 and 6. When I use my power checker it reads no power to posts 3,4,5,...

I have an EH 40 sitting in front of me right now.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-EH40-hot-water-heater-timer.html
The link above shows correct 240V water heater timer wiring for EH40
Link below shows an overview picture of EH 40 connected to 240V water heater
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/EH40-water-heater-circuit-5.jpg
http://waterheatertimer.org/240-v-water-heater-circuit.html

EH40 has a 240V clock.
Terminals 1 and 2 send power to the 240V clock
Power to the clock terminals do not pass through timer to any other terminal

How to wire EH40 for 240V
240V line has 2 hot wires from breaker box.
Lets call these wires Hot1 and Hot2
These wire are interchangeable on 240V circuit
Hot1 connects to terminal 1 with a jumper to terminal 3 (or connect to 3 and jumper to 1)
Hot2 connects to terminal 2 with a jumper to terminal 5 (or connect to 5 and jumper to 2)

240V circuit has 2 wires going to the Load
Let's call these Load1 and Load2
These wires are interchangeable on 240V circuit
Load1 connects to terminal 4
Load2 connects to terminal 6

If the timer is still not working, go back to the breaker and test if it is delivering 240V to the circuit.
If breaker is bad on one leg, then the circuit can test with live power, but the 240V appliance will not work.
240V circuit requires both legs of 240V before circuit is complete.

How to wire an intermatic eh40 water heater timer

Note that the "IMPORTANT!" paper insert that came with my EH40 shows one small jumper between 1 & 5 and the second small jumper between 2 & 3 (and, of course, the jumpers aren't really long enough to reach from 1 to 5!). Jumping 1&3, 2&5 makes more sense and matches the labeling on the plastic insulator piece...
