Mine was the voltage regulator rectifier. After cleaning the deck and shutting down the engine one day, when I went to restart I got no power and found main fuse blown. It kept blowing as soon as I turned the key. After reading this and other forums, I trouble shot all the wires, nothing obvious frayed or cracked or broken, so I started by disconnecting PTO and solenoid and it still would blow. So I unplugged EVERYTHING and started reconnecting one at a time. The VRR was one of the last things I got to and there it was, pop! Everything else worked and I was able to start the engine without VRR plugged in. Approx. $15 to replace on Amazon. Good luck!
Sounds like a bad short some where. from my experience i found that of i unplug the magneto and the pto clutch. it wont blow the fuse. plug one in at a time and when it blows that is your problem. could be several things but that is what i have found.
