LG 42LG50 Using Playstation 3 with display output at 1080p, the screen goes black with error invalid format. I called LG for warranty and they clearly know about this issue. Allthough would not admit it, nor give out more information. The person was very kind and patient. He mentioned the frames per second. The TV would only support 24 hertz or frames per second at 1080p. I have also tried several HDMI cables, including the later versions 1.3b The issue is still not resolved.

You must make sure your playstation and your TV set are both set for the same video format (1080p, 1080i, 720p, etc.).

You can either go through all your HDTV formats until it synchs up (give each a good 20 seconds or so before moving on), or you can open the display menu for your PS/3 using a different video connection to your set (i.e. composite), setting both to match, then switching them to HDMI.

You need to lower the PS3 video resolution, it is too high for the TV to display, try at lower resolution first, the PS3 resolution should not be higher than the TV can support.

You need to lower your PC video resolution to the native resolution of this TV. It is too high for the TV to display.

dude im sure its ur TV cant be bith 1080i and 1080p not sure that works like that, sorry just stick to what the TV is

Try holding down the on/off button until it beeps once. this should reset the display to the original setting.

I had a second playstation hooked to another tv in my home and took a controller from the non-LG-TV-displaying ps3 and one from a working ps3 on a seperate TV. And used the working ps3 to guide me to the settings menu on the ps3 that was not displaying video. Anyways, if you cannot see the tv screen because it is set on 1080p and your LG will not display it (Only displays up to 1080i). Start The PS3 and press the D-pad buttons in this order.

Left 10+ times. (This Takes you to the far left icon in the XMB)
Right Once. (This is the settings icon)
Down 20+ times. (To reach the bottom of the settings)
Then Up 4 times (This is Display Settings)
Press "X" Once. (This enters Display Settings)
Press Up 5 times (This Makes Sure you are at the top of the sub-menu at Video Output Settings)
Press "X" Once (This Enters Video Output Settings)

Before pressing any more buttons, Know what cables you have pluged into your TV.
For HDMI Just Press "X" and it will auto adjust to for the new TV.
For Component / D-Terminal Output Press Down Once Then "X", and X Again (This changed my ps3 from the 1080p-Invalid Format back to 1080i and fixed my problem.
For Composite Video Output Press Down Twice, Then "X" and X again.

For AV MULTI / SCART Output Press Down Three Times, Then "X"and X again.

change the display settings to 1080i or 720p- his tv likely does not support 1080p.

Most PS3 games do not support 1080p, so if u have a 1080p supporting game, only then can u do it.

its your cords and your useing a really cheap brand the does not sut your tv and it is does not sut your ps3 so it will cut out and make errors
