Minolta to Nikon --Switching to Digital -- LENSE problems

Been using Minoltas for years--most used lens was 500 mm mirrored... In switching to DIGITAL, I'm trying to get as close to that as I can with Nikon...may have been advised wrong by a relative but bought the Nikon D60...now I'm concerned about lenses that I was told would work (capabilities of the camera re: lenses) -- I bought the Nikkor 300 mm and it is nothing close to results using my Minolta/500 mirrored. I shoot in forests and jungles, various lighting, usually long distances and quite small subjects. Any advice or opinion, helpful experience is greatly appreciated. My email addy is: [email protected]. Thanks!

Mirror lenses have no aperture nor AF, so they mount via a T mount. A $30 item that screws on the end of a mirror lens that fits your camera. A mirror lens has it's physical likes and dislikes against a glass 500mm. A glass 500mm will give a better image if you can stop down to F8 F16. Then you have shutter speeds to consider and those lenses are usually connected to the camera's contacts. So they can be specific to a single body. There are older Tamron lenses that take Adaptall mounts, they are old and hard to find. But they solved the multiple body problems for "auto" program lenses. None had AF, when AF camera around, we were back to individual lenses per body.

D90 wont shoot in auto mode. gives me r21 error. Manual mode works fine

Did you switch the Focus-mode selector to MF?
It is the switch with number 8. Perhaps you are used to switching on the lens, but on the body is also a switch. Normaly used for the older AF lenses.

I would like to use my Sigma 600 Mirror lense on Nikon M80 digital camara body lense was used on a Pentax Super A camara before can it fit

Sorry, no. If it fit onto a Pentax camera then the lens has a Pentax mount. The Nikon (I assume you mean the D80 digital camera, or perhaps the N80 film camera) has a Nikon mount. Since the Nikon mount has a deeper flange distance than the Pentax mount, there are no adapters available to allow you to fit a Pentax-mount lens onto a Nikon camera.

My Coolpix S220 (Nikon)'s lense is stuck. The lense itself is not straight and it won't turn on or off beause the lense will not go back in. I'm not sure how it happened because I didn't drop it or...

The lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the Nikon service as you do not have to run around for spares.

I have a Soligor C/D 28 - 200 mm, f3.5 - 5.3 Macro lens used quiet well on a Minolta XG1 and want to know whether I can use it on a Nikon D90 DSLR and if so, where can I source an adapter. Is it worth the...

The lense will probably work with an adapter. try ebay. i purchased one for my canon lenses for macro work. note that the focal length of the nikon is 46.5 and the minolta is 43.5 and infinity will not work with out an adapter with a correcting lense. you will find a adapter with out a lense will work fine for macro.

I have Quantaray 28-90 mm aspherical lens and want to know what digital bodies it would fit on.

With right adapters it should fit in any camera. At least Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax. The adapters are 10-20$ each and easy to fit in the lense.

Everytime I try to zoom in the picture just gets blurrier and blurrier. I've cleaned the lense. I even tried switching lenses. It was fine for the other lense...I tried switching all settings. I didn't...

It would be useful to know which lens you are using. Have you tried aiming the AF area to a contrasty spot? If you aim at something which is not contrasty enough the AF cannot focus. It can also happen if it is too dark.
I would also try the lens on another body. A friend or the nearest shop may help there.

Nikon DX AF- S Nikkor 18-55 mm lens won't Auto focus

Is the switch on the side of the lens set to manual or auto? Sometimes it's the little things like this that we don't notice.
