Given that defragmentation is not possible and wav file creation is not an option due to hdd full warning,I can't save songs. I'm looking at loosing years of irreplaceable work. Please help.

That is asking how big is a rock. What is the format.wav files are much larger than .mp3 files. What is the bit rate for .mp3? 64, 128, 256 320 kbps?. I Have over 14000 and it takes 406 GB. that said I only use .wav or 320 kbps, each is a file that may contain 20-30 songs, or it may 1 hour long. So That drive will hold more songs than you have, and if you think it is not large enough buy 128 GB or 256 GB. personally I would not worry about it,

I had the same problem. After some reasarch I found out that even if you erase a song the data is still on the recorder in "hidden files".

What you have to do is download the WAV manager software from Fostex.com, then copy all your files to your PC, reformat the hardrive on the Fostex, and copy the song files back on to the Fostex form your PC.

I know it's a pain in the ****, but I guess that's one reason this thing was so inexpensive.
I still am very happy with mine, but after 3 years of constant use in my case, some type of maintenence can be expected to happen.

If I were you I would pull the hard drive out, hook it up to an external enclosure and try to access via windows.

I have an I-pod nano 4 gb. What I think is going on is you are loading full "wav" files. The 500 songs is predicated on low quality "mp3" songs. Normally, I-tunes will convert the "wav" file to an "mp3" file.

Check your music files on your computer and assure they are "mp3" files. If they are make sure your I-pod does not have other "stuff" on it. Use I-tunes to reset it an "like-new" condition (that removes all files)., then use I-tunes to re-install your music.

If you are downloading files from the I-tunes store make sure they are safe so you do not loose your investment in tunes.

Since they are from cd's make sure the ripped files are safe, then try a re-install.

Make sure you have the song loaded first. In this case it sounds like you are importing into a new song, so make sure that you have a new song created and loaded prior to importing.

Then go to the menu by pressing the 'MENU' sutton and from there select 'WAVE' and then 'IMPORT TRACK'. You'll see the list of wav files on the fat partition of the CF media displayed. Select the wav file with your beat track on it (use the DATA DIAL or up/down arrow buttons to highlight the right wav file) and press the 'YES/ENTER' button. You'll be prompted for the track to import into. Select Track01 and press the 'Yes/Enter' button again and the WAV file will be read and inported into track 1.

Please note that the wav file should be a 44.1 kHz, 16-bit and a mono wav before trying to import it. If the beat track was created as a stereo wav you'll have to go into a wav editor like Audacity and resave the file as a mono wav file first. Also for a wav with a bit rate higher than 16-bit, the DP-02 is going to truncate the bits rather than dither and this might effect quality adversly so you might want to make sure that the file is properly saved as 16-bit prior to attempting an import to avoid this.

You shouldn't have to do any formatting. If you copied a wav file onto the DP-02 while connected with the USB and with the USB connection open, then you were already accessing the fat partition. One thing to be aware of is that the DP-02 only works with mono wav files. So if the wav file from you PC is being saved as a stereo wav (which is the default for most programs) then you'll have to specify mono instead. The DP-02 only works in 16 bit as well so on your PC you should be saving and wav files you wish to import as 16 bit, 44.lkHz mono wav files). That should be about it.

if u have recorded songs by recorder, it is not saved in format of mp3 instead it is saved in .wav format.. So if possible u should convert .wav in .mp3 by converter software. One of the example is mp3 cutter. This software is very accurate. if u use this, .wav can be converted in .mp3 for sure and transfer the mp3s in ur phone or memory card by bluetooth, IR or memory card or pc suite.

FLOW THE TIPS. SELECT OPEN FLODER > MP3 SONG > SELECT SONG > OPEN> SELECT SONG START TO END > OPEN WAV OPTION > SELECT THE PATH WHERE U SAVE THE WAV TONE > ENTER NAME OF THE SONG > AFTER FINISH PROCESS PRESS OK BOTTON.

I found this on a website. I used to have the LG VX8500 but now I have the Sidekick 3 and didn't get the chance to try it. Maybe it works....

This is for windows users.

You will need BitPim .62, as well as a CD Ripping program called CDex, found at

Install CDex, and open it up.

Click on the Convert menu, and click where it says "Convert compressed audio files to "Wav Files"

Then Browse and find your Mp3.

Click convert, and make note of where the new .wav is saved.

Then use Sound Recorder (standard windows program --- Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recorder --- ) to open up the .wav file, and crop the part of the song you want as a ringer.

Once the file is the size you want it, go to file and then save.

Use CDex once again to reverse the conversion -- Click Convert and then click "Convert .wav files to compressed audio files".

That's all you need to do. Then just use BitPim .62 to add the file to your phone.

1) get a MicroSD card (it'll come with an adapter)
2) on your computer, transfer the mp3 files to the microSD
3) put the microSD in your phone.
