Try switching the hot and cold hoses. See if the hot water works. Sometimes the gate gets frozen, other times the hot is so slow it seems to not be working, similar to when it takes a long time to get hot water in the sink.

SOURCE: cold water trickle hot water runs good

turn off water valves at wall, disconnect the supply hoses from the washer. where the hoses connect to the washer, there is usually a stainless steel screen/strainer inline on both the hot and cold inlet. corrosion on the cold side is pretty common. Menards, Lowes Home Depot stores sell the replacment screeens.

SOURCE: no cold water will enter machine but not water

Turn off the cold water.
Remove the cold water hose from the washer. Clean out the filter screen in the water valve. Re-attach the hose and turn the water back on. If you get no cold water replace the water valve.

SOURCE: whirlpool washing machine...only uses hot water

Make sure the hoses are connected correctly to the water valve on the machine. The connections will be marked with an "H" and a "C".

Given they are correct, most current washing machines have and auto temp feature on the water fill. It allows even cold water settings to bring in some hot water to make sure the water temp is hot enough to efficiently disolve your laundry detergant. The preset temps are usually around 75* for cold, and 105* for warm. Hot water comes in at whatever temp your household water temp is.

Hot water will not run into top loading machine.

Is this a new install? Has it worked before and now it doesn't? Did you let it run long enough to confirm that there was ample opportunity for the hot water from your heater to make its way into the machine? If you turn off the hot tap and the only solenoid that is opening is the cold, then there is a problem with the machine.

Why is hot water running in on a cold water wash

the machine will blend hot and cold to get the correct temperature. when set at 40. the water entering may be at say 35. depending on the machine, it can either heat it up or add hot water. one solution is to use a splitter and run both hot and cold from the cold supply.

GE WPSR3100W0AA Does not run on Hot-Cold temperature mode, only on cold- cold or warm-cold. Hot water hose and faucet are ok and ON.

you can switch the hoses to verify that the temp selector is working if you have the cold water supplied to the hot side and run the machine on hot-cold side and nothing comes out then replace the water inlet valves.

There is no cold water only hot and the machine shuts itself off before filling with water

Not enough information, but I'm assuming you have 2 inlet water valves. 1 hot water and 2 cold water. Possibly you connected the hot water to the hot water valve. It must go to the cold water valve instead. Not good to run the washing machine like that as it will bring other problems into play. (colours running, plastic distorting etc.). That's if it is very hot water.

No hot water to wash

Is the hot water hot that is coming to the washer? Are you using the correct settings on the unit? If yes to both then either the solinoid water valve is bad or the timer switch unit is bad. Try going to a totally hot water setting. While turning on the machine feel of the hot water line at the machine and see if you notice a buzz or feel a click as you turn on the machine. On this setting does water run in and is it hot or cold. If water runs and it is cold try going to a total cold setting and see if you get cold or hot water. Is this a new setup or has it been working and stopped? If new, you could have the hoses connected backward. If you get water in both hot and cold settings but cold both ways then your hot water heater is not working....let me know....
