SOURCE: My dyson shuts off after just a few seconds of run time.
This is (unfortunately) common with DC16 --- check to see if the red lights flash when it stops -- this is the "no filter" warning shut off. I have been living with this problem for about 3 years. Fix: remove the main filter (blue flexible plastic thing) -- note the small cylindrical metal magnet near the bottom --- it is not close enough to the sensor (sensor is buried in plastic body) . Try folding some paper and wedge it behind the filter to force the magnet closer to the sensor -- this can be done but required a bit of patience.
