Some usb pen drives,  if thats what you mean? They have a little button on the side of them to protect the contents of the usb pen drive. Check that, tyhen go to "My Computer" look for pen drive, Right click and format.

 Best of luck.....

No usb can be write protected. Its some virus infection in that particular usb which is not allowing you to format it. I'd suggest you to take the usb to a diff pc plug it in whatever comes up don't click or do anything with it. Simply through my computers right click on usb and click format. It will get formatted.

Hi I have a transcend jetflash d33193 4Gb flash that won't format. It tells me the flash is write protected and i don't she any physical lock. i have tried every possible thing i know on it but it...

The message which you are facing while formatting your flash drive maybe be due to below reasons.
1) It could be due to virus. Try to scan your flash drive with your anti-virus and check.
2) Second reason would be when you connecting your flash drive it may include some autorun files which starts its own when you connect your flash drive and because that file is running it wont allow to be formatted, so try to delete all the files including in your flash drive and than try formatting.
or
There is right protect switch on many pen drives , a physical write protect switch which enables you to either allow writing on the disk or disallow writing on the disk.

All you need to do is toggle the right protect switch and you would be able to write files on your pen drive.

Unable to format the cruser pendrive

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

Cheers!

Removal of write protection

Sounds like you will need to format the internal memory of the camera. This will permanently erase all the data from the memory and then you will be able to use it again. To format the memory: Press the Ok button - right arrow to Mode Menu - down arrow to Card tab - right arrow to card setup - right arrow to format option. You will see format yes or no. Choose Yes and press ok. This will clear the write protect message and the memory can be used again.
