If the latch is adjustable, adjust it. If that doesn’t work, replace latch

SOURCE: soap door latch won't latch close

Make sure the dial that you turn to start the dishwasher is all the way to the beginning. Sometimes my little grandson comes by and plays with it, turning it. I load, add soap and the dispenser won't close. I check the outside dial, and sure enough, set it to the very beginning and the dispenser locks in place!

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

SOURCE: dishwasher door latch

I just had this problem (or should I say, finally had the time to deal with it). Google searches revealed different ways to get the door open including repairmen with crowbars (causing replacement of the entire control assembly $$$), having to back out the top screws that hold the dishwasher in place (and to the top of the counter) with pliers, then moving the dishwasher out from the counter.

Nuts to all that.

First things first. Turn OFF the power to the dishwasher.

I wound up on my back first watching how the handle moved and which side seemed to be loose, in my case the right side was moving freely. After first trying to hold the handle in the "down" position with a springhook (to no avail) I wound up biasing the handle to the right (with a screwdriver inserted on the left side of the handle) while moving the handle in the "operate" direction. Suddenly (and without warning) the entire handle assembly moved to the right and created an opening that made it simple to stick a screwdriver up to operate the latch manually.

Four screws later the control panel was out, the offending broken handle assembly was in my hands to discover that they could have easily made the little tabs the hold the handle in place a whole lot sturdier, but let's not go there...

If I had to do the whole thing again it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to open it up I'm sure. Now to simply order the part and install it when it arrives. The best part is we can still run the dishwasher until it gets here!

You will need a Samsung dealer repairman, the inner mechanism will need to be serviced because for some reason it is jammed or there are broken parts.

Whirlpool dishwasher door will not click shut to allow washing cycle to start

Check to be sure the gasket that is between the unit and the door is in its proper palce, it may be knocked out of its normal spot and keeping the door form closing all the way where the latch would engage.

The door won't latch

The most common problem with the door not latching is the top rack not being completely in the back position. Check the rack to make sure that there is nothing jammed and not letting the rack completely close, also make sure that water tube lines up. On most models there is not real adjustments for the door latch.

Latch is not working properly

It's possible the machine is slightly twisted.
Try re-levelling it to start.
You can usually tell when the door is not quite closed if it looks out-of-centre.

The next thing to check is lubrication of the catch. Try some WD-40 in the latch mechanism.

If still no better, then the latch may need adjusting by removing the front panel (unplug machine before doing this).
Grease the moving parts and adjust catch for easy closing.

How do you open a locked door on my washig machine?

Unplug machine from wall. Remove bottom front panel. Reach up inside the right towards the latch assembly. There is a pull down tab at the bottom of the door latch. Pull down on tab, door lock should release. Be prepared to catch any water that may be inside the drum once door is open.

Whirlpool dishwasher

Watch the light closely. If it blinks 7 times then pauses, this indicates a heater or door latch issue.
Press the following buttons in sequence: Hi Temp Wash, Heated Dry, Hi Temp Wash, Heated Dry, Hi Temp Wash.
If this doesn't work, check the tech sheet. (should be stuck to inside of the bottom toe panel)

All lights should illuminate then a diagnostic sequence will start.
Listen carefully, as soon as you hear the water begin to fill, open the door and feel the heater. if cold, check the heater for continuity (should be around 10ohms)
Also, bend the door catch on the dishwasher tub downward, this will engage the door latch better. Don't bend too far as it will hit the door while closing.
