It sounds like you may need a new LCD screen or lens. I'm having similar problem with a white LCD screen on a Canon camcorder, but it still records video, I just can't see what's in the frame or access menus. Does yours still record video? If so, it is the LCD screen.
The touch screen portion of your lcd panel is working correctly but the panel isnt. The panel needs to be replaced and 9 times out of ten the cable does as well. I hope this helps.
I have the same problem with a DCR-HC45.The culprit is the ribbon between the circuit board and the LCD display,but my problem is worse,sometimes the screen turns white and I can't see anything on it.I have no idea from where to buy a replacement ribbon but I know how to replace it.
I do not see any mirror either in lcd section of your Sony DCR-DVD101 camera as you can see in below picture. Please let me know your problem with details.
