The pilot light on my magic chef gas range keeps going out. Usually just on the one side.

It doesn't come apart for cleaning like some gas ranges do. I frequently have to re-light it when I want to use it.

SOURCE: lighting pilot light on magic chef gas range

Hello Jim,
Try to replace the ignitor if it is more than 3 or 4 yrs. old..If it not that old then Turn the knob to the pilot setting and depress the handle. Holding it down and at the same time, press down on the red button that sparks. You may have to repeat this a few times. Once the pilot lights, continue to hold down on the pilot knob for about 30 seconds. When you release the knob, the flame should stay oN. If it does not, replace the thermocouple. Once the pilot flame is steady, turn the gas valve knob to on!!!..Thank you...

Hope this helps you!!...

Regards!!!....

Magic chef gas range top burners will not stay light

This problem is almost always due to a defective gas valve. If you decide to replace the part yourself remember safety 1st, turn off the gas and disconnect power to the range.

Oven pilot out how do i light it? it wont light wit a lighter? do i need to turn the oven on to do this

no you do not need oven on! if it is a freestanding pilot that passes gas as soon as supply is on it should light with a match, if it isnt you may have a clogged orifice on that pilot hood, you need to remove the pilot line at pilot hood and get orifice out it may be stuck in there and need some coaxing but it'll come out it may even stick to pilot line once you take it apart, just clean with a clean rag and replace, I would clean pilot hood at this time as well , wire brush or very small file to clean any rust in there, be carefull not to break hood of pilot body it is easy to do if your not gentle

I cant find the stove top pilot

Electric Ignition (sparking clicking noise when control knob is turned to "light" setting) do not have pilots. The spark ignites the gas.

Most, if not all, gas ovens do not have pilot lights any longer. They are electronically ignited. You could have a loose wire on the igniter or a faulty igniter. If your oven is new it should be covered by the warranty.

You did say 1948, as in 60 year old range?
Well, gas ranges did not have fancy safety valves or things like that back then. Most likely when you turn on the gas, a small amount of gas begins escaping at the pilot orifice. Then use a long handled lighter to put a flame there. Pilot should light right away.
