SOURCE: wont print black but colors are fine,
Clean heads, clean heads, clean heads, etc. Then do the test print to see if the heads are open. I had similar problem with an Epson, had to clean the heads often, finally got to where the heads wouldn't clean so threw it away and bought another one (HP this time, the heads are included in the ink carts, haven't had to clean the heads at all.)
SOURCE: Printer does not print black ink - only blue.
You'll find the printhead, beneath the ink carrier, is clogged with dried ink. Go to http:www.inkjetprinterhelp.us/cx6400 and download the dismantling instructions. Use alcohol (vodka works ok) to remove the gunk and things should work ok again. If you find excessive dried ink, you may need to clean out the drain tube, but this should be obvious on a visual inspection.

Many thanks for the suggestions received. Have been told by HP to
change the black printhead - which has solved the problem!
