If it trys to turn over and is not strong enough then u need to check your battery to see if it has a dead cell if battery is ok then you need a new starter the spindle in the starter is going bad if it doesnt turn over at all or makes a clicking sound then u need a starter solenoid it is located on the side of the motor the best way to find it is to follow your main power leads from battery and then power lead to the starter the device that the leads bolt to is the solenoid it will have 2 studs up top and 2 acc leads on bottom let me know follow steps in order

25hp pull start cord not retacting spring has been replaced

When fitting any pull start spring, you must first pre wind the spring. Once the spring has been at least 1/2 way wound up or tensioned, wrap the pull rope around the spool. When you assemble it and pull the cord, the spring should wind up further to its fully wound position and now retract as normal. If you don't prewind the spring, there will be little or no tension to rewind the rope.

1974 40H.P. mercury outboard been setting up for 10to12yrs

This is probably a Merc 400 and you can remove the upper cowling and rope start it if you do not have the rope starter already attached. As I recall, all of this class motor were manual start with optional electric start, so thy came equipped with pull starters.

If the motor will not turn over manually then it is likely seized or frozen up and requires professional help. I have worked on numerous Mercs from 5 to over 100 HP and every one would turn over by pull starting if they were mechanically sound.

Black arms in clutch dont allways come out and catch when rope pulled. Chainsaw rope pulls out without catching and turning over to start. What should i do?

Most Stihl starters that i have seen rely on the r clip securing the pulley on being a tight fit on the shaft, this creates a friction, as the pulley turns the clip trys to stay still and in turn pushes the pawls out, remove the clip and squash it close together to create a better fit on the shaft

I have a 2002 jeep liberty with a 3.7L I replaced the motor got it from a 2005 liberty and now it will not start. the motor ran when it was in the 2005 and when i installed it into the 2002 it turns over...

You may need the ecu from the 2005, or your current ecu needs reprogrammed.

2 stroke is rated at 100 to 1... but I always run it a little more like 50 to 1. I would rather put plugs in it than burn up a motor for lack of oil......

it sounds like you have a bad starter if it clicks and will not turn over thats a bad starter.

I pull the rope and it seems like it wants to start.It will not start with rope ? are you sure your brake control cable is adjusted right if not it could cause it not to start,you said after you pulled rope and trys to start you used it twice when ?
