My light meter LED's suddenly stopped working. I replaced the batteries but still nothing in manual, auto or anything... any ideas???
Easy solution : remove battery cover and clean inside the battery chamber AND the battery cap/cover itself ( use pencil erasor or anything slightly abrasive )
More demanding solution : remove top cover and locate red wire on the left hand side of the circuit board ( impossible to miss; the wire brings power from battery chamber to the main board ) and resolder ( dry joint ) . You should also actually measure whether you are getting 3V through this wire ( one connection to the contact and the other to the body of the camera ). If you are still not getting anything out from the battery chamber the red wire needs replacing.
There are several problems under this post. Not all are the same.
The posters problem is most likely due to the contacts which turn the metering circuit on. These need re-adjusting. Theres' a screw an a cam inside.
To leans how to dismantle the camera to access this part there is a camera repair website which deals with these cameras in detail. The author also can service these cameras at a very competetive price.

LED,s not working on Pentax MG. Fires in manual mode (1/100 sec ok). Canera cannot be used in auto mode. Any help? Replaced two new batteries. Meter still no functioning. LED,s not getting power. Marlin.
I'm also having the same problem with my Pentax ME - new battery, no LED lights at all for the light meter. I've changed lenses to make sure it isn't that - although they are connected in anyway. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning the camera as it hasn't been used in a while, replaced all batteries, nothing helped. Any suggestions?
I have a pentax super program camera approx. 20 years old. Just recently the light meter doesn't work. I've replaced the batteries and I've done the pencil eraser bit in the battery cover but still nothing. I took it into a repair shop and they said that it looks like it's a circuit problem they weren't going to touch it and please come and pick it up and have a nice day. I've looked in the battery chamber but I see no wires.
I have a pentax super program approx. 20 years old. My light meter just stopped working. I've replaced the batteries, cleaned the battery compartment with a pencil eraser. Looked for any wires attached or loose. I took it into a repair shop. They said it looked like a circuit problem. They weren't/aren't going to even try and repair. Please come and get it and oh, have a nice day.
I have a similar problem with my Pentax MG, but the LED is always red, at the top of the scale next to "over." It's there no matter what Fstop I use. I'm wondering if the shutter speed even changes in auto mode.
